Key findings

  • FaZe Clan was defeated during a livestream but quickly resumed broadcasting.
  • Swatting poses serious risks to content creators, including PTSD and potential harm.

Members of the FaZe Clan were arrested during a Twitching stream. The eSports organization is known for participating in several tournaments for games like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive And Braveand for its controversial roster of Twitch streamers and content creators.

FaZe Clan is hosting a Twitch Subathon until September 30th, where the content creators will stream 24/7 to participate in various challenges and pranks to entertain their fans. This is also a way to maximize Twitch's SUBtember, an annual event that offers discounts on subscriptions, special offers on gifted subscriptions, and extra Bits and Cheers for their favorite Twitch streamers. It is a highly anticipated event for viewers as they get a good deal on subscriptions and support Twitch streamers, and streamers can also earn more revenue during this period.

However, a horrific swatting incident occurred between FaZe Clan members during the Subathon stream on September 19. According to a TMZ report, a person claiming to be 60 years old called 911 to claim they had committed a double murder and gave the address of FaZe Clan's mansion in Los Angeles. The stream captured the moment police officers arrived outside the mansion and viewers heard a megaphone calling for streamers to come out with their hands raised.

What happened after the FaZe clan swatting incident?

Fortunately, the swatting incident was quickly defused as the FaZe Clan streamers returned to the subathon afterwards. They also deleted the VOD that contained the swatting to avoid Twitch bans or suspensions. Many FaZe Clan fans expressed concern about the situation and condemned people who think swatting is a funny prank. Meanwhile, the FaZe Clan Twitter account and streamers Ronaldo and Lacy have started creating memes to lighten the situation.

Swatting is a dangerous prank that involves sending the police to the content creator's home. Streamers are the usual victims, as many of them reveal parts of their lives or do IRL streams, making them easy targets for pranksters. Many well-known names like Ludwig Ahgren, Adin Ross, and BeardedBlevins have fallen victim to swatting while livestreaming, witnessed by thousands of terrified viewers.

Although many streamers and content creators have emerged from swatting incidents largely unscathed, these pranks can also take their toll. Twitch streamer QTCinderella shared that she developed post-traumatic stress disorder due to repeated swatting attempts in her home. There have also been situations where people have been killed by police after being swatted as a prank, further demonstrating how dangerous this act is and underscoring the importance of better protection for content creators.
