Key findings
- Capcom asks fans if they would like to see remakes similar to Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster for series like Devil May Cry, Dino Crisis and Okami.
- Many of these games have also been on hold for a long time, so it's a glimmer of hope that Capcom will dive deep into its back catalogue and bring back more than just Frank West.
Dead Rising made its long-overdue comeback last week with the Deluxe Remaster, sending us back to the zombie-infested Willamette Parkview Mall after 18 years. But Capcom is already looking to the future and has asked fans in a new survey which other games they would like to see in the DRDR style.
Although DRDR runs on the new RE Engine, Capcom does not consider it a remake. So these games would be 1:1 remasters with a new coat of paint, rather than reimaginings like Resident Evil.
Topping the list is Dino Crisis, which Capcom revealed earlier this year was one of the series' most requested games. However, creator Shinji Mikami believes there is “no room” for the game because of… Monster Hunter. Regardless, Capcom is still gauging interest in the classic survival horror, but there are some other incredibly popular games on this poll list:
- Dino Crisis
- The Lost Planet
- Devil May Cry
- Power Stone
- resident Evil
- Onimusha
- Darkstalker
- Okaami
More faithful remakes (sorry, remasters) of the classic Resident Evil games are certainly an interesting idea. There have already been remakes of 2, 3 and 4, but keeping the tank controls of the classics with modern quality of life features in a new engine a la DRDR would be a great way to let people experience the originals in the modern day.
Alternatively, we could update Resident Evil 0 and Code Veronica. But we had Tons of Resident Evil, so I'm sure DMC, Okami, and others on this list would be more popular picks. One of our senior editors, Jade King, even wrote about how much we need an Onimusha reboottwo years ahead of its time, huh?
Take this with caution
Capcom has been asking fans for years if Dino Crisis is coming back, so that's no guarantee it will happen. But Dead Rising featured in many of those polls, so it's at least a glimmer of hope that Capcom's long-dormant games won't gather dust forever.
We also don't yet know how well the Deluxe Remaster performs, which will no doubt influence whether Capcom pursues similar remakes. Time will tell, but if you want to join the chorus of fans demanding that these games finally return and make their big appearance next, you can take the poll here.
