Future Zelda games should consider including more non-Link protagonists
There are some great non-Link characters that could lead a compelling Zelda game
Now that Zelda has proven that Link isn't the only one who can take the lead in a main installment, the series could look to put some of its other main characters at the forefront. Impa, for example, could be considered one of the series' most notable characters worthy of a lead role due to her constant reappearances and the intriguing nature of her character. A challenging action-adventure game similar Ninja Gaiden could be a good choice for the battle-hardened and stealthy Sheikah, even if she occasionally appears as a non-combat character.
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind WakerTetra could be the star of her very own pirate adventure prequel, especially given her backstory and true identity. Before the events of The wind alarm clockTetra spent her life on the open sea, leading a pirate crew in search of treasure. As the game progresses, however, it turns out that Tetra is actually the reincarnation of Zelda. In light of this revelation, a prequel is created that shows Tetra in her life before The wind alarm clock could be a captivating story.
More unconventional Zelda characters could offer unique perspectives in a lead role
While a Zelda While the game could feature its “good” characters in a lead role, other unconventional characters like Ganondorf and the Skull Child in a lead role could offer unique perspectives. Having Ganondorf in the lead role would certainly make for a dark story, but it could allow players to have first-hand experience with specific timelines where the villain actually defeats Link. In addition, a game with the Skull Kid, who is best known for his role in Zelda: Majora's Maskwas able to show his life before he was corrupted by Majora's Mask, as well as his slow descent into madness.
Some Zelda characters could even provide immersive sim experiences
Deviating from its normal, story-driven format, The Legend of Zelda could even venture into Sim territory with some of its characters – namely Beedle and Dampe. Beedle has been a recurring character in the series for some time, occasionally appearing to sell various goods such as potions, arrows, and other important items. So perhaps a shop simulation would be in order, where players have control of Beedle and can travel around Hyrule and sell items to Link and other Hylians. Additionally, Dampe has frequently played the role of grave guardian, suggesting a simulation similar to Lazy Bear Games. Cemetery keeper could fit well into the world of The Legend of Zelda.
There are obviously a lot of characters in it Zelda Universe that would create unique stories if they had a starring role, like Impa, Tetra, Ganondorf and the Skull Child. Additionally, characters such as Beedle and Dampe were featured The Legend of Zelda Branching out into the sim genre for a new departure from the series' traditional gameplay. Hopefully, Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom has started something here that Nintendo will continue by shining a spotlight on more non-Link characters.
