Lara Croft's tour of the gaming world continued in 2024, with the legendary adventurer appearing in Hero Wars, state of survivalAnd Naraka: Blade tip. But by far Lara Croft's most memorable appearance this year came in July, when the heroine appeared as a new playable survivor in the asymmetrical horror game Dead by daylight alongside some unique perks related to their special abilities as grave robbers.

Lara Croft's own ventures have been doing well

In addition to all of her cameos, Lara Croft has also starred in some of her own franchise projects. The Aspyr development Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered was launched back in February of this year and takes over the popular original Grave robber Trilogy and gives it a fresh coat of paint, some reworked controls, some quality of life improvements and a handful of new gameplay mechanics and features.

Just last month, Lara Croft received an animated adaptation Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft coming to Netflix in October. This 8-part series takes place in the same continuity as Crystal Dynamics' Grave robber Survivor trilogy, set shortly after the events of 2018 Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Hayley Atwell – known from the MCU – voices Lara in this adaptation.

While Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered received a solid 75 on Metacritic, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft didn't fare quite as well, with the animated Netflix series scoring a 65 on the same site. That is, both Grave robber Projects seem to have been successful enough as Aspyr is preparing to release one Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered trilogy for next year and The Legend of Lara Croft was renewed for a second season.

The Tomb Raider franchise should strike while the iron is hot

After all of Lara Croft's cameo appearances over the last few years, and after the recent Netflix show and the remastered trilogy, it feels that way Grave robber is slowly coming back into the spotlight. But it's not that far yet Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered will probably do a good job of keeping the franchise in the public consciousness, it will take something bigger to give something Grave robber the push needed to enter a new golden age.

Already in 2022, Crystal Dynamics announced a new one Grave robber was in development and would attempt to unify all of the franchise's schedules. However, there is still no official reveal in sight for the next one Grave robber entry, and this recent resurgence is the perfect opportunity to finally deliver one.
