Not as much was talked about Tomb Raider 4-6 as about Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered, and that makes sense for many reasons. It is always more of a novelty than the most obvious and unforgettable collection. But the first three games are also a coherent trilogy, while 4-6 are not. This is something that many hardcore fans had liked to overlook only to get more raffle -raider, but this reality bit with the general audience.
Tomb Raider 4 (also known as the last revelation) is really a continuation of the trilogy, and these four games together form a complete experience. It is by far the best game in the collection and the most deserved that a new life contract that the remakes of last year offered the original trilogy. If you hadn't divided Tomb Raider in trilogies for marketing, you really would have the first four together. TR5, Chronicles, is a flashback game that is around the original quartet and is part of it without feeling part of it -similar to a clip show in a sitcom. And Tomb Raider 6, well …
The new Tomb -Raider trilogy is not a trilogy
Angel of Darkness did not fit the most obviously to this collection. It was a restart that aimed to move away from the same old Tomb -Raider that we had previously seen, and because this restart failed critically and commercially, it didn't go anywhere. The Legend Trilogy (including anniversary and underworld) was a more successful restart that modernized the controls and the scope of Tomb Raider, while the old mood is retained – anniversary is even a remake of the original game.
So there is a lack of cohesion with both the latest 1-3 remaster and between the games themselves, but there is also a question of quality. The personal taste will be a factor, but most fans would say in their hearts that only TR4 can keep up with the first three games. Even then it is probably fourth in line. But I am not here to beat Tomb Raider, especially because any criticism, no matter how deserves, puts the playful fans crazy, although my thoughts match that we are really a new Tomb-Raider are well done in the spirit of the classics. Instead, I would like to discuss Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness.
The sixth game in the series is the strange out. There is no other game that also likes remote, and it is also not canonically associated with other games. And yet there was no doubt that Engel had to be part of this modern glow when the project was announced. Otherwise to pull out of the gallery. Angel of Darkness does not fit anywhere, except in the hearts of the Hard -Tomb -raider fans. This is an enviable place, and an ascent of the Tomb -Raider of the surviving trilogy can claim to have set a serious claim to you.
Angels of darkness is a special game
There is a magic in angels of darkness. Some of it is simply nostalgia, and there is not much to learn from it. Despite obvious evidence that the controls are not suitable, the action is tired and the collision of identity is so obvious that it wrote the rule book about what is not to be done in a raid game, people love it. And there is a lesson that can learn from it.
Angel of darkness was the coolest Lara ever looked. Even the greatest critics of the game would not argue that the leather pants and sunglasses in Bloodfours Paris were not a mood. But it's not just a case of transplantation that looks into a new Tomb Raider game. At that time Lara was spiky, bathroom and brave. She was closer to heroines like Buffy or Trinity, who were often seen sporty leather than for the tender discoverer that they have been recently.
If there is a thing that the angel of darkness takes away despite all its mistakes, then something in the general aesthetics of the game or the feeling that it creates means something for people. Obviously “she is like Buffy!” Is also a very nostalgic idea, but the general attraction, cool and crucial for Lara's increasing conflict about how a grab leaf in a foreign country may be a good person can be seen clearly. It would ask to cause problems to make an angel of dark 2, but after everything I have described that legend and ascent should be the blueprint for the future of the series, there may still be room in the Tomb Raider formula for a little angel of darkness.
