The stealth genre has produced some truly outstanding games, many of which were ahead of their time and helped propel the gaming industry as a whole.
Ahead of the game's release, publisher Tripwire Interactive released a new promo video dedicated to Agnes Santos, one of them The Stone of Madness's playable characters. Although Agnes is an old lady, she promises to do her best by enchanting and hexing enemies to distract them. She can also perform surveillance tasks by looking through the eyes of stone statues scattered throughout the game world. This is extremely useful for scouting locations while avoiding danger.
Sneaking around as an old lady isn't easy
Every character in The Stone of Madness owns Darkest Dungeon-like traumas and phobias that must be managed to avoid a variety of psychological breakdowns, ranging from debilitating to outright violent. While Agnes' character vignette doesn't delve into her own fears, it does mention that the witch lacks agility, as one would expect from an old lady. This will make it difficult for her to sneak around due to her frequent back pain. While one of her allies, Leonora Guzman, will be able to climb walls, even a staircase may be a difficult challenge for Agnes, especially with guards on her trail.
Overall, to get the most out of Agnes, the player must carefully consider when and where to move, while also supporting her with other characters. Beyond her scouting abilities and spells, she can retaliate by manipulating light sources, whether to create hiding places for other characters or to light an area for one of her allies who is afraid of the dark. At night, she can mix potions to restore the group's health. Agnes could potentially be the focus of some uniquely unconventional stealth gameplay The Stone of Madness.
