The most anticipated horror games coming in 2025

Do you love fear and all things spooky? Then you should take a look at the horror games in 2025. 2024 was a great year for horror, with games like the Silent Hill 2 remake and Still Wakes the Deep taking the spotlight. But will 2025 be even scarier?

As the forefathers of fear and revolutionaries of rebellion, these games pave the way to horror.

Little Nightmares 3 has been pushed back to 2025, so we're hoping we can see that next year, but there are plenty of other horror titles to look forward to too. Here are all the horror games the TG staff is most excited about in 2025.

I don't do well with horror games. I played small parts of Silent Hill 2, panicked when more than one enemy came at me, and then handed the controller to my friend to watch her play the rest of the game instead. Little Nightmares and Little Nightmares 2 were just the right amount of scares for me, so I'm looking forward to Tarsier Studios' next project, Reanimal.

Reanimal is a co-op game (which would have been a perfect complement to Little Nightmares 2, so it's great that it's here this time) and is set in a world just as eerie as the studio's previous games. The creatures want you to see them gigantic Compared to the little kids you play, I can't wait to get unreasonably scared while playing.

I grew up with hand-animated Sierra adventures like Torin's Passage and King's Quest 7. Bye Sweet Carole isn't exactly that, but the aesthetic is more than enough to bring me back to that lost era of gaming.

“Bye Sweet Carole” will either be a masterpiece or an exceptionally well-presented nothingness, and I argue that it is the former. The entire entertainment industry needs more projects to prove that good things happen when you take the time to do it right.

I'm a bit of a scaredy-cat, so horror games generally aren't my thing. It's the whole “being afraid” thing that I just don't like. But Critical Reflex had the best 2024 of any publisher and almost converted me to a genre I had previously hated.

Buckshot Roulette, Arctic Eggs, Mouthwash, Threshold. Four excellent horror games in just eight months. Arctic Eggs is my personal favorite (and probably the least scary game, to the point of being unsettling), but Mouthwashing is a must-play and won me over with its brilliant mechanics, compelling narratives, and clever twists on our expectations of what games can do and should, be surprised. I don't know what Critical Reflex will come up with next, but I'll be there on day one.

Alien: Isolation 2

Amanda Hurych, editor

The cover of “Alien Isolation” shows the main character in a spacesuit, with the alien reflected in the glass.

I love horror games. I love being scared, screaming randomly around the apartment when something comes at me in my game, and feeling the sweat from my palms literally covering my controller. In my opinion, a perfect horror gaming experience. And if we talk about a horror game that stresses me out more than any other, then Alien: Isolation is the best example. So even though it is like that very Although I'm optimistic that the sequel will come out next year, I'll continue to list Alien: Isolation 2 as my most anticipated horror game every year until it finally comes out.

The Xenomorph in the original was a force to be reckoned with. It was a masterpiece in enemy AI design that tracked your every move, ratcheted up the tension at the most perfect moments, and truly captured the high-stakes terror it feels like being stalked by this ultimate movie monster. The technology has gotten even better, so I'm more than salivating for a murderous Xenomorph to get what was meant to be everyone's the most awaited horror game.

This dark take on Disney's Golden Age aesthetic was one of my most anticipated games for 2024, but time marches on and the title is now slated for release in 2025. A hand-drawn 2D Metroidvania, you explore a haunted orphanage after a year of mysterious disappearances, fighting red-eyed shapeshifting demons.

The twisted fairy tale style is a classic because it has endless potential, and while the art style was what initially drew me to Bye Sweet Carole, it's the gameplay that has captivated me ever since. We probably won't all live happily ever after when this drops next year.
