Although the PSP is one of Sony's most forgotten consoles, some of its best games have been remastered. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Meanwhile, he remade a classic prequel starring Zack Kingdom Hearts: Birth Through Sleep In addition, some gaps were filled with a prequel. Even first party games like LocoRoco And Patapon have received remasters.
There are also some enhanced versions of PSP games that can be purchased on the PS5 or are free with certain PS Plus tiers. They cleaned up the visuals and added some bonuses like saves. How many PSP fans know about this secret project? Let's get into some of the hidden gems that helped Sony further develop the PS5.
6 Daxter
The Ottsel finally comes into its own
Daxter was one of the earliest PSP games that was a spin-off of it Jak and Daxter Series. It took place between the first and second games, right after the pair flew to the future and Jak was kidnapped. On his search for Jak, Daxter meets new friends in the city and becomes an exterminator, equipped with a small electric fly swatter.
It may seem like a strange premise, but the action and platforming mechanics were good. Plus, Daxter was hilarious as always and was one of Sony's funniest sidekicks. Fans of the PSP and this series should also check out Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier on the PS5, the final game in the series.
5 Joan of Arc
France defends itself against English monsters
Joan of Arc is finally being brought back to the forefront, which is great since it's one of the best level 5 games. It's an alternate history game about Joan of Arc fighting with France against England, just like in the history books. The special thing is that she receives a magical armband that allows her to transform Sailor Moon style and there are anthropomorphic animals like pigs and lizards.
It's also a tactical RPG with all the usual bells and whistles, from gear menus to tile-based maps. Fans of tactical role-playing games will definitely want to give it a try. While it would be great if there was a full remaster or sequel, at least the PS5's internal emulation is doing a good job and people can finally play it legally and easily again.
4 Killzone: Liberation
A top-down tactical shooter
It has been since its debut on the PS2 Killzone The series has received a new game on every system except the PS5. Most are first person shooters, but this PSP spinoff Killzone: Liberationwas slightly different. It's a top-down shooter with a bit of strategy gameplay similar to that Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon games.
The enemies always outnumber the heroes, so players must act wisely. There are tons of weapons and gadgets to unlock, and the story isn't bad either. It's a shame they didn't do more top-down entries like this on the PSP or PS Vita, but there's always time to correct this mistake.
3 Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters
That's really not the case
Ratchet & Clank: Size MattersTrue to its witty title, it proved to be a slam dunk Ratchet & Clank The experience could be enjoyed on the PSP. It was released after all PS2 games in 2007. The plot sees the duo once again hop from planet to planet and fight aliens to save the galaxy.
The two are armed to the teeth with a variety of weapons and Ratchet's trusty wrench. Ratchet levels up by increasing his HP, and his weapons also level up randomly. It's a formula that Insomniac started with the second game on the PS2 and that was perfected there. While Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters didn't bring anything wild to the story or gameplay loop, it was still an exciting action platformer on the PSP that holds up better on the PS5.
2 Resistance: retaliation
The English front in the alien war
Resistance: retaliation continued the fight against the invading Chimera aliens during World War II. The gameplay changed from a first-person shooter to a cover shooter, but that was all for the better on the PSP. Plus, the new protagonist, James Grayson, was better than Nathan Hale in the original.
James was part of the British Army, so players had a stronger connection since the warfront was on European soil. Furthermore, despite his dark backstory, he was simply a more charismatic character and was supported by a capable group of NPCs. How Killzone: LiberationIt's a shame there weren't more games like this or more on the PSP Resistance Generally games based on the PS Vita. The alternate history version of World War II was quite convincing, especially when the war front moved to North American soil in the second game.
1 Siphon filter: Dark mirror
Gabe and Lian return
- Platforms: PSP, PS2
- Released: March 14, 2006 (PSP version)
- Developer: Bend Studio
- Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment
Siphon filter: Dark mirror was the first game in the Siphon filter series on the PSP and the first game in a while. Siphon filter: The Omega varietythe entry on the PS2, was not as well received as the original PS1 trilogy. So this game and its sequel Siphon Filter: Logan's Shadow which is also well emulated on the PS5, was like an updated return to form.
Gabe and Lian returned for more secret missions around the globe. There were more weapons, a diverse gadget wheel, better stealth mechanics, shooting was easier, and so on. Both games were so well received on the PSP that they also received PS2 ports, but they were released far too late in the console's life cycle. Shamefully, there was never a PS3 game at the time, and Siphon Filter: Logan's ShadowThe PS2 port of PS2 was the last entry overall in 2010.
