Golem is one of the OG victory conditions in Clash Royale. It is a gigantic beast with a huge health pool that only attacks the enemy tower. Although it has largely fallen out of favor with the introduction of new victory conditions such as Goblin Giant or Goblin Drill, when used correctly, Golem decks are still powerful enough to destroy the King's Tower with a single push.
Golem decks are usually a bit cumbersome, as the card itself costs a whopping eight elixirs to use. If you're looking to use this win condition to climb Trophy Road, in this guide we've rounded up some of the best decks you might want to try.
The best Golem decks to play in Clash Royale
Here are the three Golem decks players may want to try Clash Royale at the moment:
- Classic golem slayer
- Golem double dragon pump
- Golem Guncart Night Witch
More information about these decks can be found below.
Classic golem slayer
When it first came out, that was classic Golem defeat was a nearly unstoppable deck-in Clash Royale. Since the original version didn't include any Evo cards, we've tweaked the deck slightly to make it more suitable for today's meta.
Here are the cards you need for this deck:
Card name |
Elixir cost |
---|---|
Evo Zap |
2 |
Evo bomber |
2 |
tornado |
3 |
Mega Minion |
3 |
lumberjack |
4 |
Night Witch |
4 |
flash |
6 |
Golem |
8 |
In this deck you combine Golem with two of its strongest supports, the Night Witch and the Woodcutter. This deck is all about building a big push from the back of your King Tower. It's a slow, methodical deck that plays defensively at the start of the game and destroys the opponent's tower once the Double Elixir phase begins.
At the start of the game, you should use your Lumberjack and Mega Minion to defend anything the enemy places on the field. This deck contains three spells – Evo Zap, Tornado, and Lightning – that give you a lot of outplay potential. However, avoid using lightning too often early in the game as it costs a large portion of your elixir bar. Every bit of Elixir counts if you want this deck to work.
The Evo Bomber is your secret weapon in this deck. It can act as a secondary victory condition if you're having trouble getting through with your Golem advances. Use Tornado wisely to aim the Evo Bomber's shots at the enemy tower and inflict massive damage with each attack.
This deck uses Cannoneer Tower Troop.
Golem double dragon pump
Golem decks usually get a lot of criticism for being too one-dimensional. If you feel the same way, then Golem double dragon pump could be just the thing for you. It's an extremely versatile deck with a relatively low average Elixir cost despite using such a difficult win condition.
Here are the cards you need for this deck.
Card name |
Elixir cost |
---|---|
Evo skeletons |
1 |
Evo Zap |
2 |
minions |
3 |
Baby dragon |
4 |
Inferno Dragon |
4 |
Poison |
4 |
Elixir collector |
6 |
Golem |
8 |
The main idea of this deck is to not play Golem at all during the single Elixir phase. Instead, you want to play defense while placing as many elixir collectors behind your princess towers as possible. This will either force your opponent to spend Elixir to take out your Elixir Collectors or apply pressure to pressure you.
This deck features excellent defense, with Baby Dragon taking out swarm troops and Inferno Dragon dealing with cards like Hog Rider or Pekka. You can also use skeletons and minions to deal massive damage or distract enemy troops. Once you've built up an Elixir lead, you can launch a push with a Golem behind you.
When you go in with Golem, place the Inferno Dragon and Baby Dragon behind it. Use Poison on the opponent's tower and Evo Zap to eliminate any high damage cards your opponent uses to take down your Golem. If your opponent defends a golem advance, you'll have enough elixir saved up to attack again with a fresh new golem at your back.
Both Dagger Duchess and Cannoneer are good tower troops for this deck.
Golem Guncart Night Witch
The Golem Guncart Night Witch For Golem players, it could be the strongest deck in the meta right now, with a strong Evo combo and some of the best support troops. It has a relatively low elixir cost and gives you various ways to deal damage to the opponent's tower.
Here are the cards you need for the deck:
Card name |
Elixir cost |
---|---|
Evo bomber |
2 |
Evo Zap |
2 |
guards |
3 |
Arrows |
3 |
Skeleton dragons |
4 |
Night Witch |
4 |
Gun carriage |
5 |
Golem |
8 |
The deck has an average elixir cost of 3.9, which puts it in the same range as some of the cycle decks players like to use. Golem is the only really heavy card in this deck. This means you won't have to starve for Elixir as much and will be able to easily cycle through your deck to get your Evo cards, as long as you don't come into play with a Golem during the single Elixir phase.
Guards, Cannon Carts, and Skeleton Dragons are the three main cards you should play in the early stages, focusing solely on defense. Arrows will help you defend against Goblin Barrel or Goblin Drill when faced with these decks.
When you get into the double elixir phase, start building your push. You should place your Night Witch and Skeleton Dragons behind the golem. If you have a good opening, Evo Bomber can help you get some nice chip damage. Use guards and gun carriages to defend yourself if your opponent attempts a tower trade.
Use Cannoneer Tower Troop for this deck.
Tips for playing Golem decks in Clash Royale
Before we conclude, here are a few important tips to keep in mind when playing a Golem deck Clash Royal:
- Most Golem decks only play defense during the single Elixir phase. Avoid using your golem and try to build an elixir lead with smart defense.
- If you have a big spell in your deck, like Lightning, Missile, or even Evo Zap, save it for the opponent's defensive building when building a push. If you use Lightning to take out an Inferno Tower that your opponent has placed, you'll be in a good position.
- Golem decks are countered with swarm-heavy decks like Spell Bait or Goblin Drill Cycle. When facing these decks, your only hope for victory is to build a massive push that your enemies simply cannot defend.
- If you have a Tornado in your deck, use it to deal the Golem's death damage to enemy troops. The damage from the death explosion is deceptively high.
- Against X-Bow or Mortar, you can use Golem defensively to fight against the siege unit. Golem has a huge health pool and can take out the siege troops, but still has enough HP left, forcing your opponent to defend.
- Pekka and Inferno Tower are the two biggest Golem counters. When going against these cards, make sure you have the right troops in your cycle to take them down.
- During the Triple Elixir phase, you should be able to move multiple golems around the field to put pressure on the enemy tower. If you can hold off the game until this point, you will be in a good position to secure victory.
Although Golem is no longer as unstoppable as before, he is still strong enough to help you climb the trophy ladder. It takes a bit of skill to pull off, but with practice you'll soon become a true golem master Clash Royale.
