The word Shonen means “little boy”. Therefore, shonen manga and anime are typically aimed at adolescent boys who want to identify with outsiders and be inspired by role models. It's no secret that a big focus of the genre is writing good male characters.

That being said, there is no shortage of amazing women in anime. Luckily, Jujutsu Kaisen is full of well-written and memorable girls who can compete with the main cast! From the largely harmless Miwa to the living disaster Yuki, here are Jujutsu Kaisen's best female characters!

Uro Takako

Uro is one of many reincarnated wizards who serve as mini-antagonists in the Culling Games arc. While other similar characters fell into obscurity, Uro gained widespread attention due to her unique cursed technique and sheer strength as a sorceress.

Uro is also one of the few female characters in Jujutsu Kaisen to be confirmed to have a domain expansion.

Furthermore, despite Uro's absurd power, which was so strong that Yuta used her copied technique in his fight against Ryo, she chose to run away after seeing Sukuna. This is in stark contrast to other powerhouses we've seen, such as Kashimo, making her one of the few sorcerers with enough sense to prioritize preservation over thrills.

Tengen

For those who have only seen the anime, this entry might seem like a joke. However, it turns out that the most important character of the Jujutsu Kaisen universe, the only reason the world has not succumbed to the horror of the curses and the one responsible for the somewhat stable state of the current Jujutsu society, is originally one Woman was!

This revelation may come as a shock to many, but Tengen's character has always had maternal symbolism, focusing on protective barriers. Every star plasma ship we've seen has either been a teenage girl or a young adult woman, including the tragic Riko Amanai.

Shoko Ieri

Shoko Ieri's aloofness and iconic eye bags make her an immediately eye-catching character, and her being left alone to experience what happened to her closest friends also makes her one of the most tragic characters as she is forced to to experience the fate of her two closest friends.

Since she's a healer reserved for the backlines, she never got much attention on screen, but she's responsible for keeping important characters alive and being a key requirement for several of the cast's plans against Sukuna, as well as hers unique relationship with two of the series' central pieces, certainly places her among Jujutsu Kaisen's top females.

Mei Mei

Mei Mei is a bit strange when it comes to Jujutsu Kaisen characters. There are many people who love them, but also those who don't like them. She is an extremely strong sorcerer, although she has a somewhat lackluster cursing technique, adding to Jujutsu Kaisen's theme of the strongest receiving this title based on who they are rather than their powers.

However, at worst, Mei Mei is also a selfish, greedy woman with some controversial writing decisions affecting her and Ui Ui. Love her or hate her, there's no denying that Mei Mei is one of the most complex characters in Jujutsu Kaisen, showing that not everyone the protagonists team up with is a good person.

Riko Amani

In a world of powerful wizards, Riko shines as a normal human. Despite being an average teenage girl, her learning to live selfishly is one of the best storylines in Jujutsu Kaisen. The inner conflict between duty and doing what you want to do is something many of us can relate to more than warding off powerful curses.

Riko's dissolution is also one of the most important events in Jujutsu Kaisen. It helped Gojo awaken and fully understand his cursed technique, but also caused Gojo and Geto to drift apart, with the latter taking the path of evil. Her finally learning to care for herself also indirectly became the reason why Kenjaku eventually took over Geto's body, as well as the entire Shinjuku Massacre arc, as Tengen did not possess a Star Plasma Vessel.

Rika

For those who haven't seen the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie, Rika may be an incredibly strong, super cool curse who aids Yuta in his fights. However, it should come as no surprise to those interested that Rika herself is one of the best female characters in the JJK cast.

Although she died as a child, she lived on as a curse to protect Yuta and fulfill her promise. It is important to note that the Rika we see today is not the young girl's original soul, but rather a copy created after the original soul was freed from the curse. Nevertheless, she is the perfect partner for Yuta and a really great figure!

Yuki Tsukumu

In the Jujutsu Kaisen universe, there aren't many wizards with special degrees to begin with, and Yuki Tsukumu is the only woman among them. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to call her one of the most hyped characters in the series, as every scene she's featured in only makes fans more excited for her impending reveal.

Yuki's cursed technique allows her to create a black hole when used to the maximum. This gives her even more destructive power than Gojo.

After her battle with Kenjaku, her already considerable popularity multiplied rapidly. While she didn't reach the same level of community love as higher-rated entries, she remains one of the coolest characters in Jujutsu Kaisen.

Miwa Kasumi

Miwa is not the strongest sorceress, but perhaps one of the weakest. Although there were several hints that she would eventually become stronger, such as her brightly colored hair and a panel focused on Miwa in the Culling Games arc, she remained mostly powerless until the end of the series.

However, strength is not the only thing that counts for a character. Miwa is a well-loved character who secures top spots in every popularity poll. She also has quite the internet presence and attracts the attention of many JJK memes and references.

Utahime

Utahime may not have seen as much action as many other contestants, but she has been one of the most popular JJK girls since day one. Her signature facial scar coupled with her shrine priestess aesthetic makes for a very memorable design, and her interactions with Jujutsu Kaisen's poster boy Gojo only earn her more points.

At the beginning of the second season, she was even given background information and became a key supporting player in the background as the cast battled Sukuna. While her students may not have had nearly as much popularity as their Tokyo counterparts, Utahime herself is certainly as popular!

Nobara Kugisaki

No wonder the only girl in the main trio is one of the most popular girls in Jujutsu Kaisen. Considered one of the best-written fictional characters in all of shonen, she has captivated fans since their first introduction with her fun personality and captivating looks.

This love for Nobara only grew stronger as she had more scenes showing her fame, as well as flashbacks showing how she became the person she is today. She was also the highest voted female character in JJK for a long time, only losing to Maki after she got her storyline.

Maki Zenin

Both strong and reliable, Maki also has the coolest fit in the series. She is also one of the few JJK girls to have an entire story arc dedicated to her, and the only main fighter to survive Sukuna's wave of attacks head-on until the end of the series.

Her coming to terms with her past by going straight into the Zenin headquarters and coming out a completely changed person was one of the most cringeworthy moments in the series, as the new Maki even forced the likes of Sukuna to use deceitful tactics against her. Last but not least, the coolness rule alone is enough to give Maki Zenin one of the top spots among the best Jujutsu Kaisen characters.
