Star Rail's Dwellers of Abundance Explained

The events of Honkai: Star Rail 2.4 and 2.5 saw the Borisin's covert invasion of the Xianzhou Luofu to free her warhead Hoolay from Shackling Prison. This story focuses primarily on the conflict between the Borisin and their relatives, the Foxians. However, it also touches on the centuries-long war between the Xianzhou Alliance and the largest faction that the Borisin belong to: the Dwellers of Abundance.

The inhabitants of the Abundance include long-lived species that follow the Aeon Yaoshi, including:

  • Borisin: These canine-humanoid species share a common ancestor with the Foxians, and both once lived on the planet Verdantia. It is said that Yaoshi created the Red Spring in Verdantia and those who drank from it gained immortality. This blessing also caused a population boom in the country and led to its collapse. The survivors fled the planet and the Borisin eventually gained notoriety for conquering other civilizations with their brute strength and immense knowledge of biotechnology.
  • Wing Weaver: These are feathered species that used to live on Muldrasil. They were enemies of Honkai: Star Railis Xianzhou before he achieved immortality. They slaughtered many Alliance natives.
  • Houyhnhnm: These centaur-like species have four hind legs and two arms. They have formed alliances with the Borisin and were recently enslaved by the Antimatter Legion.
  • Heliobi: These are formless forms of pure energy. Their origins are unknown, and although the Xianzhou classifies them as a Dweller of Abundance, their faction affiliation is unclear. They have always been enemies of the Alliance, as they often seek to possess and exploit human bodies.

The conflict between the Dwellers of Abundance and the Xianzhou Alliance

The residents' devotion to their path makes them natural enemies of the Xianzhou, whose goal is to eradicate the “plagues of plenty.” To understand this conflict, one must know the history of the Alliance, who were once stalwarts of the Path of Abundance.

The Story of Xianzhou and Abundance

Centuries ago, the Xianzhou Alliance sought the medicine of immortality and received it from Yaoshi via the ambrosial arbor that the Aeon had planted on the Luofu. However, they discovered that the long life they sought and now enjoyed was a curse, as Xianzhou's oldest citizens eventually became “Mara-struck.” This condition causes humans of the long-lived species to slowly lose their minds and develop painful body growths that irreversibly transform them into hostile beings.

Immortality also led to massive population growth in Xianzhou, which was mismanaged and led to civil wars. The fleet was attacked by outsiders who also sought immortality. Tired of the bloodshed and unrest, the Reignbow Arbiter Lan, one of the Alliance's fiercest heroes, rose up against the Abundance's control of the Xianzhou.

The Dwellers of the Abundance Wars

Not everyone supported Lan's dissent. However, the Alliance soon called for their help as the Wingweavers began advancing on the Xianzhou Fleet. The hero made a deal with the Flint Emperor of the Heliobi, imprisoned in the Binding Prison, to harness their power. Together, they fired an arrow that destroyed the Ambrosial Arbor and the invading Wingweaver army in one shot. The force of this attack was so strong that every ship in the Xianzhou fleet was damaged. Lan and the Flint Emperor subsequently ascended to godhood and became the Aeon of the Hunt.

After the events of the first Denizens of Abundance War, the Alliance swore allegiance to Lan. Their mission to destroy the inhabitants of the Abundance led to two more major conflicts. The latest attack resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Xianzhou pilots. Almost three decades have passed since the third war, and it looks like the Borissin invasion could trigger the next one.
