Skydance's Behemoth review

Skydance has established itself as one of the leading VR game developers. The studio Walking dead Gaming is some of the best VR titles available, so expectations were high for Skydance's latest VR game. Behemoth. A dark action-adventure game set in the dark fantasy world of the Forsaken Lands. Behemoth is another great virtual reality game from Skydance and is certainly one of the better VR action-adventure games.

In BehemothIn “Wren,” players take on the role of Wren, a hunter from a small village plagued by the same supernatural rot that has plagued the Forsaken Lands. To end the suffering, gigantic beasts, the titular behemoths, must be killed while simultaneously collecting equipment, fighting human enemies, and solving puzzles.

The giants are the big selling point of Behemothand they don't disappoint. The immense size of these creatures cannot be underestimated and the fight against them is absolutely exciting. Behemoth delivers some of the best and most memorable boss fights in all of VR gaming with these breathtaking creatures, with each battle surpassing the last in complexity, challenge and scale. These fights would have looked incredible on a traditional flat screen TV or monitor, but seeing these monsters in the context of virtual reality is truly something else.

Behemoth's boss fights are its biggest draw

The incredible behemoth battles alone are worth the price of admission, although there are a few issues that prevent these encounters from reaching their full potential. There is a lot of climbing Behemothand usually it works exactly as intended, but there were times when the climbing just didn't work properly when trying to scale these gigantic creatures. One of the more impressive giant fights was also ruined by cut-in and cut-out audio that was distracting and robbed the moment of its impact. But even with these hiccups, BehemothThe boss fights are unforgettable.

There are only a few giant battles in the game. In between, players must fight through countless hordes of human enemies armed with swords, axes, shields and bows. Players can pick up and use any weapon they encounter on their adventures, with combat benefiting greatly from the freedom that VR offers. Players can break through an enemy's shield with an axe, stun them with a quick arrow shot to the foot, and then stab them through the head while their guard is weakened. Having so many weapons at your disposal may seem daunting, but players don't have to worry about fumbling with their inventory in the heat of battle. Key weapons automatically return when thrown aside, and players can even throw their sword and manually retrieve it at will God of warIs Leviathan Ax if you want.

Early on, Behemoth Gives Wren a special ability that significantly increases her strength for a short time. When fights become too overwhelming, players can trigger this ability to literally cut their opponents in half, chop off their limbs, and even pick them up and throw them. As the game progresses, Wren's arsenal grows, which in turn increases players' options in each combat encounter and ensures fights last longer Behemoth never get old.

There is a lot of fighting Behemothbut the game shines with its puzzle solving. fans of Zelda-style puzzles will have a lot of fun solving the puzzles Behemothand while many of them may be simple compared to traditional console games, the ability to take a hands-on approach to everything, literally, helps them feel fresh. Puzzles help break up and ensure combat encounters Behemoth keeps a great pace from the beginning of the game to the end credits. While there's nothing here to amaze players, the puzzles are still challenging enough that players won't get bored either.

My first playthrough of Behemoth took about 10 hours, but I imagine it took another 5-10 hours to 100%.

The last piece of BehemothThe core gameplay is platforming. Behemoth equips players with a grappling hook that allows them to dash to higher ledges, sometimes using their momentum to throw Wren long distances, then fight their way to the next point, and so on and so forth. Wren's dash, usually used to dodge enemy attacks, can be used in the air to overcome gaps, and players can also jump up walls and ledges that they physically climb using their hands. Clever twists on the formula are sprinkled throughout and, combined with the upgrades players get to Wren's grappling hook that make it more useful, keep things interesting.

Behemoth gives you good value for money

Everything in the game is so effective because Behemoth doesn't overstay your welcome. It gradually gives players more tools and then presents puzzles and combat encounters that make use of those tools. When Behemoth When you run out of ideas, the game ends. That doesn't mean Behemoth There isn't much content to travel through. The playthrough took about 10 hours and I didn't see nearly everything. There are many locations off the beaten path, often with more difficult puzzles and platforming challenges that grant helpful rewards.

Behemoth There are collectibles for players to find, but the truly exciting rewards are the metals that players use to upgrade their weapons. Stay true to that BehemothWhen immersed in VR, upgrading weapons isn't done by clicking through a menu. Players must place their weapon on an anvil, melt the required materials, and then hit the heated weapon with a hammer. Similar to Skydance's other VR games Behemoth does an excellent job of captivating players by taking full advantage of the unique possibilities of VR. What would be a mundane task in any other game is instead made exciting and entertaining.

From a gameplay perspective, it's hard to find fault with this Behemoth beyond the shaky climbing during the gigantic boss fights. The game's two biggest drawbacks are its story, which is boring and predictable, and its graphical glitches, which are a bit too frequent. Most of the time, Behemoth looks great, but sometimes it drops the ball with textures that won't load and strange looking effects.

Behemoth has an Arena mode that is currently in beta testing, but we weren't able to try it out for this test.

It's not perfect, but that doesn't stop it Behemoth about being one of the best VR games ever. It's an action-packed adventure that should really appeal to fans of games like… The Legend of Zelda And God of warwith a healthy balance of tough combat, exciting puzzles and addictive exploration. It's the latest must-have VR experience and one of the best virtual reality games released all year.
