Risks multiply for Mediterranean-bound migrants, UN study shows

GENEVA: More migrants and refugees are making dangerous journeys across Africa towards the southern shores of the Mediterranean Sea, where they face increasing risks of abuse such as kidnapping and organ theft, a UN-backed report said on Friday. The routes crossing the Sahara north from West and East Africa are considered twice as deadly as the better-documented Mediterranean sea route, where more than 800 people have reportedly drowned already this year, the report said.
