Resident Evil Village offers a terrible experience. In it, Ethan Winters must face all sorts of supernatural horrors to save his daughter Rose. It's not a title for the faint of heart and never fails to deliver breathtaking action.
To shine, players need strong nerves and a good understanding of the game mechanics. There are also a few unwritten rules worth learning to make things easier. Most tips are about getting to grips with the innards of the combat system, while others even require players to take advantage of some of the features Resident Evil Village's VR mode. With these unwritten rules, any player can dominate Lady Dimitrescu's castle.
The unwritten rules of combat in Resident Evil Village
Use the environment wisely
Ethan rarely faces one enemy at a time, meaning players will have to think about how to survive attacks from multiple directions. One way to avoid being overwhelmed is to slow down enemies, which players manage to do from time to time by barricading the entrances to certain rooms with shelves. This can give players the time they need to reload a weapon, tend to their wounds, and scan the area they're holed up in before enemies eventually find a way.
There won't always be a place to hide, but there are still ways to slow down incoming enemies. A good way to conserve ammo while protecting Ethan is to incapacitate enemies with a few Flour Sacks, which can temporarily incapacitate nearby enemies. With that in mind, it's important to remember that not all enemies need to be killed and that running away is a valid option that ensures that Ethan Winters – a sculpted character no less – can survive to another day with ammo fight that might otherwise have been wasted.
VR offers unlimited throwing knives
If all the ammunition is used up, in the worst case scenario, Ethan still has his trusty knife on hand. Interestingly in Resident Evil Village VR allows players to use Ethan's knife as a projectile, which can come in handy in an emergency. The best thing: any number of knives can be thrown. They don't do much damage, but they can delay an enemy long enough for Ethan to ready his weapon.
The unwritten rules of exploration in Resident Evil Village
Animals can be hunted in Resident Evil Village
Resident Evil Village offers players a vast world to explore and every corner holds new horrors. To get the most out of the game, players should try to explore as much as possible. Exploration is used to find important items to advance the plot, and it also helps Ethan find useful items to aid him in the fight against the Lycans. For example, players can go to the trouble of finding animals at the Duke's merchant stalls that can be harvested to gain ingredients for crafting stat-boosting meals.
Search for treasures and lei
While exploring, it's also worth looking for all the optional treasures. There are eight to find, and they will net players either a weapon or a treasure item that the Duke will be happy to purchase for a good amount of Lei. The treasures are marked on the map by the Duke, making finding them a little easier and providing a fun additional objective for players to pursue.
Lei is a useful currency that can be used to purchase items from the Duke. Therefore, it's smart to collect as much as possible (including crystallized treasures that players earn through Maze Ball puzzles). To get the most benefit from the treasures collected, players should ensure that combinable treasures have been combined. This will give players an abundance of Lei when they sell the treasure to the Duke. The following combinable treasures can be put together Resident Evil Village:
- Azure eye ring
- Wood goat
- Miss Madalina
- Dimitrescu's necklace
- Heisenberg's hammer
