Pokemon: The Pattern for Shiny Mascot Legendaries' Shiny Events Explained

Looking back at Gen 7 and Gen 8, they both had a similar approach to their shiny Legendaries. The timing was as follows:

  • Pokémon Sun and Moon launched on November 18, 2016
  • Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon Started November 17, 2017
  • Shiny Solgaleo and Shiny Lunala were available as a GameStop event from October 21, 2019 to November 10, 2019. The creatures were available via code and mystery gift
  • Pokemon Sword and Shield were released on November 15, 2019
  • Shiny Zacian and Shiny Zamazenta became available as a GameStop event from October 22, 2021 to November 11, 2021 in the case of Zacian and from November 12 to 26, 2021 in the case of Zamazenta

These creatures are usually given as special versions, meaning the shiny Solgaleo was available in Pokémon Moon and Ultra Moonwhile the shiny Lunala was released for Pokémon Sun and Ultra Sun. Shiny Zacian was also available Pokemon shieldand shiny Zamazenta was released for Pokémon Sword. As such it would make sense Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will release the shiny Koraidon and Miraidon versions later this year, probably between October and November.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet release window prediction for Shiny Koraidon and Miraidon

Considering that Gen 7 and Gen 8 had different schedules for their respective shiny legendary events, it's possible that Gen 9 will follow one of them or neither. Shiny Solgaleo and Lunala were released on the penultimate Monday of October 2019 and the event ended on the second Sunday of November 2019. On the other hand, separate events were held for Shiny Zacian and Zamazenta, with the former taking place on the penultimate Friday of October 2021 to the second Friday of November of the same year, with the latter being made available on the second Friday of November 2021 and the event ending on the last Friday of the month.

Since Fridays are usually associated with new things for the franchise, including Tera Raid or mass outbreaks, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet The Shiny Koraidon and Miraidon event could probably start on October 18th or 25th. Depending on whether both Mons are given away at the same time, the event could last until November 1st or 8th if both come out, or November 15th or 22nd if they are separate. Although this is speculation for now, it would make sense Pokémon Scarlet and Violet to soon launch a big giveaway for the shiny 9th generation mascots as the games enter their third year.
