Perhaps the actual date was accidentally uploaded instead of the placeholder, or August 15th is simply an error.
Amazon UK very briefly updated its Pokemon Legends ZA listing with a release date of August 15th, before quickly updating it to the default placeholder of December 31st.
Maybe the release date was accidentally uploaded instead of the placeholder, or August 15th could be a completely random, irrelevant date.
Could Legends ZA coincide with the release of Switch 2?
When Nintendo finally confirmed that the Switch 2 existed, it also announced that an announcement would be made “within the fiscal year,” sometime before April.
Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa then explained that this fiscal year's sales forecast does not include the Switch 2, meaning it is expected to launch after April, perhaps in the summer. If so, the launch of Legends ZA could coincide with the new console.

The competition scene is facing a major upheaval.
This would give the Switch 2 a Pokémon launch title, which many have speculated about due to the language used in the reveal; It comes to “Nintendo Switch systems”, plural. That could mean OLED, Lite and Standard, or it could mean the game is cross-generational.
We'll most likely find out more on February 27th during the Pokémon Day celebrations, particularly with Pokémon Gifts (which was confirmed in a Pokémon Go update, as discovered by @mattyoukhana_).
What do we know about Pokemon Legends ZA?
With the game just around the corner, let's take a look at what we know so far. It's set entirely in Lumiose City and Game Freak may have accidentally leaked the starters – Chespin, Froaki and Fennekin, the same starters as Pokémon X and Y.
These have not been confirmed yet, so take this with a grain of salt.
As for the story, all we know for now is that “an urban redevelopment plan is underway to make the city a place that belongs to both humans and Pokémon.” Hopefully we'll get more insight into what exactly that means next month.
Pokemon Legends ZA is an upcoming title from Game Freak scheduled for release in 2025. It's set in Lumiose City, which is currently undergoing an ambitious redevelopment.
