Hazard is a rebel in his backstory and to some extent in his design Overwatch 2. He is part of the Phreaks, a rebellious faction that fights for those they feel have been left behind by the system. His gear doesn't fit a traditional archetype. Instead, he can switch from dive or bruiser tank depending on his team's preferred playstyle. One of his skills seems to be breaking the mold Overwatch 2is also in the front line squad.
Scottish tank Hazard officially joined the game's official roster on December 10, 2024. He can protect his team with his Spike Guard, which also fires homing spikes at opponents. Hazard's Jagged Wall ability is a deployable block that damages nearby enemies and knocks them into the air. He can overwhelm the opponent's defensive line with his violent jump and immobilize opponents with his ultimate downpour. What sets it apart from other tanks is its passive ability.

Hazard is the first tank to manage to climb the wall
Some frontline heroes are there Overwatch 2 have integrated mobility into their equipment. Winston has his jump pack, which gives him vertical and horizontal space. Doomfist's uppercut gives him height and his charge attack catapults him forward. Meanwhile, Wrecking Ball uses his grappling hook to launch himself and gain momentum as he rolls across the map. Hazard has his Violent Leap, which works similarly to Winston's Jump Pack. However, there is another mobility ability that sets it apart from other tanks: jump.
Hazard's Vault allows him to scale walls and grapple to ledges for a short time to gain some verticality. He is the very first tank since the beginning Overwatch to get such an ability.
With the Vault passive, he can only climb walls for 0.2 seconds and cannot be reactivated until Hazard reaches a walkable surface. In addition, the wall must be at least 1.25 meters high to be climbable with Vault.
This ability is deceptively simple as it opens up various attack and defense options for Hazard, such as:
- Preparations for diving: The player can use Vault on his rollout to sneak up to the high ground and hit enemies for tumble attempts.
- Hunt enemies: With Hazards Vault and Violent Leap, he can keep up with opponents like Genji, who uses his Cyber Agility to scale walls and his Swift Strike to run away while escaping. He can also use this ability to cut off enemies on the ground.
- Escape from enemies: You can also use Vault defensively. If a Hazard finds his back to the wall while being pursued by enemies, he can climb it to get out of his difficult situation. However, you need to make sure the walls have ledges that Hazard can get to before Vault's duration ends.
Hazard's Vault also breaks with an Overwatch lore tradition
Overwatch 2 is pretty conservative about who they give wall climbs to. It used to be reserved exclusively for the Shimadas: Genji and Hanzo. Another character in her circle, the support unit Kiriko, can also climb walls. It fits their design as these characters are ninjas who typically climb walls and hang from ledges to get to their destinations undetected. However, it seems that this ability is no longer exclusive to them.
Hazard is the first hero outside of the Shimada clan to climb a wall in the game. His play style and physique also don't fit the ninja archetype. However, his Vault ability seems to fit well with his overall design. Hazard is all about overwhelming enemies with his aggressiveness and speed, so giving him the ability to essentially bypass obstacles makes perfect sense. Hopefully he'll be the only tank that can climb a wall for a while, as that's one of the few traits that really makes him stand out in his role.
