Aisle 5 is what Luffy calls “Devil Fruit Awakening.”
Luffy awakened Gear 5 during his fight against Kaido on the roof of Onigashima in the Wano arc. This is where Luffy developed all of his Haki types. While his Observation Haki was already great, Luffy mastered this power even more while also taking his other Haki forms to the next level. But even though Luffy had these Haki upgrades, especially the Supreme King Color, he was unable to defeat Kaido, and that just goes to show that it wasn't easy for him at all to defeat the King of Beasts. But this was a wall that Luffy wanted to overcome at all costs, which is why he didn't mind going beyond any limits. This eventually led to Luffy awakening his Devil Fruit.
Beat loudly, heart! – Luffy
In order to truly awaken the devil fruit, the body and mind must catch up with this ability. Luffy had taken his devil fruit skills to the next level with his genius creativity. However, he really needed to understand the core of his devil fruit powers and his body needed to keep up with those abilities as well. Taking his power to the next level while also understanding the true core of his Devil Fruit powers, Luffy eventually awakened his fruit, leading to Gear 5. With the power of Gear 5, Luffy's body was far more rubbery than ever, while also being far more powerful. He transformed himself into the Warrior of Liberation and brought laughter and joy wherever he went. Luffy could basically do anything he wanted because he was only limited by his imagination. That was Gear 5's performance.
Essentially, Luffy can break any law of physics or do things that seem impossible for as long as he believes it is possible. Gear 5 is one of the most ridiculous powers to ever exist, and this ability is one that even the Five Elders have been striving for for around 800 years. The creativity clearly shined in the fight against Kaido, Gear 5 and Oda. Fans got to see Luffy turn Kaido into a jump rope, transform into a giant giant, grab lightning from the sky, run in the air, and form island-sized fists, among other things. This power-up is clearly absolutely stunning and makes Luffy a fighter unlike any other One piece.
Oda's inspiration for Gear 5
Oda reveals that Tom and Jerry are inspirations for Gear 5
Given Gear 5's uniqueness, fans have been wondering what inspired Oda to introduce this transformation into the story. Finally, there is no further transformation One piece or another Shonen comes close. Typically, shonen transformations are fueled by anger, and they essentially involve a serious tone being adopted for each battle that takes place. But Gear 5 did the exact opposite. For some fans, this was a deal-breaker. For the vast majority, however One piece For fans and those who understand the core of Luffy's character, Gear 5 is easily the greatest power-up Oda could have dreamed up. Now Oda has also revealed the inspiration behind this power-up.
Tom and Jerry are the models for Gear 5, but I was worried because only Luffy makes jokes in battle, not Kaido. I like the traditional manga expressions, such as the character's legs turning like a wheel as he runs. It's sad that they are now obsolete. – Oda (2022)

One Piece: Zoro's upcoming challenge in the Land of the Dead, explained
The Land of the Dead could play a big role for Zoro and Brook in One Piece. Here's how.
It should come as no surprise to fans that Tom and Jerry are the inspiration for Gear 5. During the fight against Kaido, fans could easily observe many similar comedic scenarios, and this was certainly a nod from Oda to this popular cartoon. At the core of Luffy's character, Oda imagines a child-like personality who never bends to any rules and does whatever she wants. Luffy is childish, funny and at the same time a person with a huge heart. Therefore, a power-up that allows him to fully display these qualities is perfect for him. Whether he's running in the air, turning people into rubber pizzas, catching lightning, or running in the air by turning his legs into wheels, Luffy can do it all simply because of how he sees the world around him.
Is Gear 5 Luffy's best power-up?
Gear 5 is the best one-piece power
Hands down, Gear 5 is Luffy's best power-up and one that Oda couldn't have handled better. There is no power-up that complements Luffy's character better than Gear 5, and no other ability could have enhanced Luffy's personality as much as this ability. This was pretty obvious to fans during the fight against Kaido, and as if that wasn't enough, fans also got further glimpses of this power throughout the Egghead arc. Of course, there are certain fans who want Geat 5 to be more serious. Even against stronger opponents, Luffy has to keep a straight face, but that shouldn't be a problem as fans have clearly seen Luffy doing just that in his fight against Kizaru and the Elders.
Luffy will joke around in battles whenever he can, but when the situation calls for it, he can also be serious despite having the power of Gear 5. It's all about how Oda chooses to use this incredible ability in the face of danger that matters. After all, he is a master writer and knows how to balance things properly. For Luffy, this form, in which he is at his most free, is truly the pinnacle of his entire character and possibly the best transformation not only in this world One piecebut an entire manga as a whole.
