Akainu is one of the main antagonists in One piece and someone who has garnered quite a bit of attention thanks to Oda's recent comments about him. As fans know, Akainu currently serves as a fleet admiral in the Navy, but he has always been extremely important beyond that. Naturally, fans expected Akainu to be even more involved in the plot after the Summit War. However, Oda took his foot off the gas when it came to this character and pushed him to the sidelines. However, there is an important reason for this. It's not that Oda doesn't care about Akainu. It just so happens that he will be rescued or something much bigger and will play an important role in the Final Saga, just like many of the characters, Shanks and Dragon suspect. Akainu is finally involved in the Final Saga and fans can't wait to see what he has to offer next.
Akainu's involvement in the story so far
- Oda portrayed Akainu as a major villain
- Luffy and Akainu will clash at some point
So far, Akainu's role in One Piece has been rather limited, but you can already tell that he is very important. For example, when fans saw him briefly around the time of the Ohara incident, his ideology was clearly visible. Akainu believes in absolute justice and to this end is willing to commit heinous acts such as genocide and so on. From the fans' perspective, Akainu is truly evil, but for him, this is the price to pay for Absolute Justice. He is incredibly harsh, not only towards the pirates and those he believes pose a threat even when innocent, but also towards his own marines. Those he deems worthy of sacrifice, he will sacrifice. He will execute those who he believes are not doing their job properly. Akainu is a very dangerous character and fans know that he will have an interesting role in the future.
Don't you like flashy funerals, Whitebeard? – Akainu
In the Paramount War, fans got another look at Akainu, and there he showed immense potential for intrigue as well as great strength. He was directly responsible for weakening Whitebeard through a trick that involved Squard stabbing him. Furthermore, he demonstrated his immense strength with the power of the Magu Magu no Mi and this ability allowed him to face off against Whitebeard. Of course, Akainu still couldn't defeat Whitebeard and was on the losing side, but fans know for sure that his strength paved the way to Marine victory and helped him a lot. Without Akainu, the battle might have been lost, and that speaks volumes about his importance in this arc. Most importantly, Akainu managed to execute Ace, which was absolutely massive. Luffy holds a grudge against Akainu, as do characters like Sabo. The fact that this human survives the Supreme War means there's a lot to look forward to, including big battles and of course, Luffy finally getting his revenge on him.
One Piece has finally reached the Final Saga, which means the story is now more exciting than ever. This also means that bigger characters like Shanks, Mihawk, Dragon and of course the likes of Akainu will finally be joining the fray, and it's their job to raise the stakes in the story like never before and keep fans excited until Ending.
Oda reveals his plans for the future with Akainu
Oda plans to take good care of Akainu
Of course, it was a cause for concern among fans that Akainu was no longer involved in the main storyline since becoming a fleet admiral. After all, he is one of the most important One piece characters and certainly someone fans would like to see in action more often. Akainu is strong and capable at the same time.
Furthermore, he is a great villain that Oda wrote to be hated not only by Luffy but also by the fans. This is one of the main reasons why fans have been concerned about Akainu not being involved in the main storyline so far.
However, all works written by Oda have a set time, and after the timeskip, it wasn't time for Akainu to play an important role in the story, at least until now. But since the final saga has finally begun, Akainuis will be deeply involved in the plot and slowly reveal his strength again. In fact, Oda is very careful with Akainu. He might also be one of Oda's favorite characters, which is another surprise for fans. That's what Oda said about Akainu a few years ago.
Oda: When creating a protagonist, it's important not to make him too strong. If Akainu became the protagonist, he would be too strong and the series would end within a year. Akainu is the most handsome guy in the world. I'll take good care of him.
Oda not only highlights Akainu's enormous strength, which in his opinion is enough to end the whole thing One piece in a year if he were the protagonist, but at the same time he also says that he will take very good care of him because Oda believes that he is a good looking guy. It's certainly not about its appearance, but rather about the value that the figure has.

Shanks vs. Blackbeard is a highly anticipated battle in One Piece. This fight could happen much sooner than expected.
Oda believes that Akainu is incredibly important One pieceand he definitely believes that the role he has given him will be perfect for this character. At least fans don't have to be sad about his lack of involvement because he will certainly be the focus of the Final Saga and deliver justice in his own way. Most importantly, fans might even see him meet characters like Luffy and many other characters.
How will Akainu be included in the final saga?
Akainu is defeated in the end
As has already been made clear, Akainu will stand in the way of the pirates in the Final Saga. This is his endgame and he will most likely face the likes of Luffy. Maybe there will be a confrontation between these two at some point. But ultimately, fans can rest assured that Luffy will eventually defeat him. Akainu cannot be left to lead the Navy because if he does, there can be no revolution in the ranks of the Marines. For a revolution, those who have a very evil idea of justice in their minds must be eliminated.
These include characters like Akainu, everyone under him, who believe in absolute justice, like Onigumo, or even Dark Justice, like Rob Lucci. These characters have no place in the new order of the Marines or the World Government unless they undergo a profound change of heart, which is highly unlikely. Many fans expect Akainu to take up arms against Imu as well, and while this is certainly a possibility, it shouldn't be relied upon because for Akainu, the main goal is to eliminate pirates as best as possible.
One Piece can be read via Viz Media. The series is officially available for fans to read for free on the Shonen Jump and Manga Plus apps. The release date for the next chapter of One Piece, One Piece 1132, is November 17, 2024.
