Key insights
- The Chinese website Alibaba has listed some accessories for the Nintendo Switch 2.
- There are cases and screen protectors for the new console, although Nintendo hasn't revealed anything about them yet.
- It's unclear whether the accessory is legitimate. If it doesn't, it's even less clear which device it's intended for.
You'd think that since it's December, everyone has accepted that we won't hear anything more about Nintendo's next console until at least January. Well, you're wrong. The rumor mill, which we assumed had been shut down until the new year, reopened when a store in China started selling accessories supposedly designed for the Switch 2.
The entries were apparently discovered by Reddit user ertaboy356b, who then posted them on the GamingLeaksAndRumors subreddit. They noted that they are not sure if the listing can technically be classified as a rumor or a leak, but it is unclear where these products came from and whether they are legitimate.

It's official: Nintendo needs to sell 14 million more Switches to become the best-selling console of all time.
The cases are pretty plain – just black with a printed Nintendo Switch 2 logo on the lid. If this is the real deal, not only is this the first look at the logo of Nintendo's next console, but it's also the first time we're told what the console will be called. While the Switch's successor is colloquially referred to as Switch 2 for convenience, Nintendo has not yet confirmed its name. I still think the Super Nintendo Switch is the best option, but not many people seem to agree with me.
A store in China is already selling Nintendo Switch 2 accessories
What do we think, is this the real deal?
When I saw these supposed accessories for the Switch 2, the first thing that came to mind was that they were mislabeled cases and screen protectors for a regular Switch. However, at 11.6 inches long, they are designed to accommodate a handheld console that is more than two inches longer than the Switch OLED, the console's largest model to date. Whatever the accessory was designed for, it's not a normal Switch.
The whole situation is very confusing as there are basically two possible explanations. The first is that Alibaba knows the dimensions of the next Nintendo console and has already launched accessories before the release of the Switch 2. The other, much stranger explanation is that Alibaba tried to predict how big the next Switch would be and made some accessories for it. Explanation number two would also require the store to guess its name and create its own Switch 2 logo.
At the time of writing, listings are still open, meaning people in China may be over-preparing for the Switch 2's arrival and may or may not purchase compatible accessories for Nintendo's next console. Perhaps even riskier in China than elsewhere, as it has already been confirmed that the current Switch's online services will end in 2026, casting doubt on what Nintendo's future might look like in the country.
