A well-known leaker claims that a popular open-world role-playing game and winner of countless GOTY awards is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2.

On November 5th, the Japanese gaming giant released its latest consolidated financial report for the six-month period ended September 30th. During a subsequent earnings call, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa said that the company still plans to announce its next console in the current fiscal year, which runs through the end of March 2025. In doing so, the official reiterated his statement from May 2024 when he originally revealed the Switch 2 announcement window. On both occasions, Furukawa did not elaborate on the matter.

Nintendo now has less than five months to meet the announced Switch 2 reveal window. Or four months and 26 days, to be exact. According to a report from Nikkei at the end of February 2024, Nintendo wants to do everything it can to avoid bottlenecks in the release of the Switch 2, like those that prevented the release of the console in 2017. Given the company's current production capabilities, this claim suggests that the upcoming device could spend more than six months in mass production before release. So if the Switch 2 isn't announced in 2024, its chances of launching before the third quarter of 2025 would likely be slim.

Nintendo is expected to release a transcript of its latest Q&A with investors in the next 24 hours, no later than November 6th. This release could contain some additional information about its next console, as shareholders will certainly be asking for it. Fans learned back in May 2024 that the Switch 2 could be similar to its predecessor when Furukawa was asked about the console during Nintendo's previous investor question and answer session.

In the company's most recent financial report, its annual profit forecast was cut by 10% due to low console sales. Nintendo sold 4.7 million Switch devices in the first half of the current fiscal year, down 30% compared to the same period last year.
