Marvel RivalsThe road to launch may not have been long, but it was certainly eventful. I come out of the gate swinging, Marvel RivalsThe reveal trailer in March tried its best to dispel any notions that the game was easy Overwatch Clone. A few months later, fans got the opportunity to see it first hand Marvel Rivals' completed playtests that demonstrate the unique strengths of the hero shooter.
Marvel Rivals has made the right moves every step of the way, and the last few weeks leading up to the game's release were particularly crucial. But developer NetEase said exactly the right thing. Along with confirmation that Marvel Rivals NetEase confirmed that every hero would be free to play and that all future heroes, modes and maps would also be completely free for all players. The latest announcement turned around Marvel Rivals' monetization practices, and it seems to be taking a page Helldivers 2is the playbook.

Marvel Rivals takes the Battle Pass approach from Helldivers 2
Helldivers 2's permanent warbonds helped justify the live service approach
The live service genre has never been more unstable. While games like Fortnite And Call of Duty: Warzone can continue to rake in millions every year, titles like Concord will close in less than two weeks. It's more important than ever for a new live service game to be transparent about its monetization practices, and the more sensible and consumer-friendly they are, the greater the game's success.
Helldivers 2 is the perfect example of this. Although Helldivers 2 Because it is strictly a co-op live service multiplayer game, it has managed to sidestep many of the general criticisms of the genre and embrace the positive aspects of the model. For example, Helldivers 2 has delivered a steady stream of updates since its release in February, adding new weapons, stratagems, enemy types and more to the game for free.
But Helldivers 2 has to make money somewhere (aside from the initial entry price) and that is through its premium warbonds. Essentially a Battle Pass, Helldivers 2The Premium War Bonds offer players a wealth of new weapons, gear, boosters and cosmetics to unlock. These War Bonds can be purchased using in-game currency, which can be earned through gameplay, or with real money. This selection is already determined Helldivers 2Monetization is different from other live service games.
But another great aspect of Helldivers 2The thing about premium war bonds is that they are permanent. Unlike in games like Fortnite, Helldivers 2The Battle Passes will not disappear when the season ends, but will instead remain unlocked and available for purchase forever. This eliminates the need for players to rush to complete the Battle Pass and prevents them from missing the chance to unlock the content they purchased.
Marvel Rivals' permanent Battle Passes keep fans updated
Based on the recent Dev Talk 07 blog post on the official website: Marvel Rivals appears to be a borrowing Helldivers 2s approach to premium battle passes. The Dev Talk post reads:
Additionally, once you purchase a Luxury Battle Pass, you can continue to redeem its rewards in subsequent seasons if you do not complete it in the current season. You don't have to worry about not having enough time to complete it.
This approach certainly has the same obvious advantages as Helldivers 2Players can take the time to complete quests and earn the rewards they spent real money on. This approach also goes hand in hand with Marvel Rivals' Season 0 Battle Pass, which will be approximately half the length and half the price of a regular Battle Pass due to the shorter duration of the season. This will give new players a good taste Marvel Rivals' Battle Pass system for a fraction of the usual cost.
