The timeline of events throughout Pokémon The series is complicated – much, much more complicated than many fans who just got into the franchise would think. Various minor inconsistencies, widespread misinformation among fans, and the fact that there is much more than just a single timeline Pokémon Series are all factors that contribute to this complexity, but in one of the few cases in the franchise's history, fans were recently able to get a look at an official and fairly detailed breakdown of the series' timeline… or part of it at the very least.
This information has its origins in the infamous “Teraleak” that occurred earlier this month. This massive data breach occurred after an anonymous hacker gained access to Game Freak's internal repositories earlier this year, and has since resulted in the internet being flooded with unprecedented development data Pokémon Content from the last decades. In addition to the personal information of over 2,600 employees and contractors, pretty much everything has also been leaked online, from concept art, source code, discarded narrative details, glimpses of early game development, and even some details about unreleased games.

Pokémon Sun and Moon leaks finally reveal one of the series' best-kept secrets
The Pokémon developer Game Freak was the victim of a hacker attack that opened the door to many leaks and now revealed an eight-year-old secret.
How these leaks determine part of the Pokemon timeline
The data that emerged from these leaks is a single rabbit hole, but the order of events is multiple Pokémon Continuities and timelines are something else entirely. The leaked information about the main series Pokémon The timeline shared by @CentroLeaks on Twitter states that the 1st and 3rd generation games take place in the same year, around the same time. As fans know, the Gen 2 titles take place three years later, although the events of the Gen 4 games here take place around the same time – “slightly later” than the Gen 2 games, according to Game Freak. The first of the Gen 5 games, Pokémon Black and Whiteare then supposed to take place 10 years after the events of the Gen 4 games.
When it comes to the Gen 4 games, it's fairly transparent that they're taking place simultaneously
Pokémon Gold and Silver
as they begin with the player watching a news broadcast about the red Gyarados in the Lake of Rage.
This isn't the first time fans have received a tip about the Pokemon timeline
First, most of this is not technically new information. Many have invested Pokémon Theorists and fans have long believed that these games take place at the same time, largely thanks to a long-deleted tweet from Toshinobu Matsumiya, a screenwriter at Game Freak who has been working on the series since Gen 1. This tweet, originally shared in May 2014, seemed to confirm that Generations 1 and 3 are occurring at the same time, while Generations 2 and 4 are also occurring at the same time later in the timeline. Additionally, the tweet claimed that after the events of Pokémon Black and Whitethe sequels Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 also happened around the same time as Pokémon X and Y.
Fans should keep in mind that leaked content is rarely canon content
However, unlike this tweet, the information from the recent leaks actually adds a bit more context Pokémon Timeline by clarifying the number of years that pass between the events of Gens 4 and 5. Many may even think that Matsumiya's ten-year-old tweet lends hindsight credence to the recently leaked timeline information, as it is most important that fans understand that almost everything was leaked Pokémon Documents represent content that was in active development at the time. This means that the canonicity of absolutely all leaked content should be taken with caution, as many designs and narrative details changed between development and release.
Since the games themselves offer little in-depth insight into the series' timeline, it's very possible that this information will be quickly retconned in the future. However, as far as fans know today, this is the most concrete and comprehensive layout of the timeline across the main series games – not taking into account the Pokémon Remakes, spin-offs, manga, or the main anime series, all occurring either in different continuities or, in some cases, in different timelines within the same continuity.
The Pokemon timeline remains a mystery even after the 6th generation
The kicker, of course, is that this information doesn't take games post-Gen 6 into account Pokémon X and Y were included in Matsumiya's timeline tweet, only loose theories are available to help fans anchor Gens 7, 8 and 9 on the timeline. All that is known about these games is that they actually take place one after the other – something that can only be understood thanks to very small snippets of information in these games that relate to the events of previous entries Pokémon Series.
