However, the truth is that its ending drew mixed reactions from fans and longtime readers for several controversial reasons.
One of them is the surprisingly large number of characters who found rather disappointing solutions to their stories. Whether it's because their ending was disappointing or because they completely disappeared in the final storylines of the manga, the following Jujutsu Kaisen Characters are some of the most egregious examples of this unfortunate event.
Spoiler warning
for the entire manga.
10 Toge Inumaki
He used to be one of the main characters, but he ended up doing almost nothing
- First appearance: Chapter 0-1 (Manga) Episode 5 (Anime)
Toge Inumaki was one of Yuta's classmates and was intended to be one of the series' main characters. Although this later changed when the manga shifted the focus to Itadori and his friends, Inumaki still remained an important character in the story, largely thanks to his unique cursed technique, the cursed speech.
But as the manga progressed, Inumaki became less and less important, so much so that he almost disappeared from the story. After losing one of his arms during Sukuna's killing spree in Shibuya, he didn't really do much other than use a tape recorder to record himself saying “Don't move” so that Yuta could use it in the final battle against the King of Curses . After Sukuna's defeat, Inumaki simply returned to his normal life.
9 panda
He lost his father and his siblings. What now?
- First appearance: Chapter 0-1 (Manga) Episode 5 (Anime)
That cannot be denied panda is one of the most fascinating characters in Jujutsu Kaisen. He is a mutated, cursed corpse created by Principal Yaga and carries three different cores within his body, each with their own abilities. Combined with his charming design and personality, it's clear why he was one of the series' original main characters.
Unlike Inumaki, Panda maintained an active role after the Shibuya Incident, but certainly left much to be desired. At first his father was executed by the Jujutsu higher-ups, but aside from briefly mourning his death, Panda never really reacted to this loss. Furthermore, both of his cores were wiped out by Kashimo and he couldn't even brag about the strength of his sister's Triceratops mode, which was disappointing for the readers who had waited a long time to witness this transformation. After this crushing defeat, Panda could be seen hanging around the other characters in a smaller form, but he didn't do much.
8 Urraume
Wait, why did they even follow Sukuna?
- First appearance: Chapter 53 (Manga) Episode 21 (Anime)
Sukuna's most loyal subordinate, UrraumeHe was also one of the most powerful incarnated wizards in the series, largely thanks to his cursed technique, Ice Formation, which allows him to wield ice-cold cryokinetic powers. However, despite Uraume playing such an important role as Sukuna's deputy, he was completely underused in the final chapters.
They faced an exciting final duel against Kinji Hakari, while the rest of the heroes fought against their master. Unfortunately, as exciting as that sounded, the majority of this fight took place off-screen. While Uraume appeared in the final chapter and passed into the afterlife alongside Sukuna, it was far from satisfactory as her backstory and motivations were never properly clarified.
7 Kinji Hakari
His epic final fight wasn't even shown
- First appearance: Chapter 153 (Manga)
At the beginning of the manga Kinji Hakari was considered one of the most talented and strongest magicians. When this suspended student later made his debut, he certainly didn't disappoint, taking part in some of the series' most jaw-dropping and bizarre fights thanks to his pachinko-style domain expansion.
Hakari also played a crucial role in the final battle, separating Sukuna from his subordinate Uraume. This invisible encounter was extremely disappointing as most readers expected him to demonstrate his unique powers once again. He couldn't even defeat her as Uraume killed himself after Sukuna's death. In the final chapter, it is suddenly revealed that Hakari and Kirara will be resuming their studies at Jujutsu Tech, which felt like a rushed development.
6 Hajime Kashimo
From a major threat to fodder for Sukuna
- First appearance: Chapter 158 (Manga)
Hajima Kashimo was an incarnated wizard from 400 years ago who possessed electrical, cursed energy. He quickly showed how incredibly powerful he was as he defeated countless players in the Culling Game, including Panda. Ultimately, Kashima had one goal in mind: to fight Ryomen Sukuna himself.
Hakari successfully convinced Kashimo to fight on their side, leading to his immediate use against Sukuna during the Shinjuku Showdown Arc. He even used his most dangerous technique called Mythical Beast Amber, but none of it was enough to defeat the King of Curses, who quickly and easily disposed of him. Despite their interesting final exchange about strength, the fact that Kashimo ended up being used as fodder to demonstrate Sukuna's power was pretty disappointing.
5 Miguel Oduol
Kenya's most powerful sorcerer quietly returned to his homeland
- First appearance: Chapters 0-3 (Manga) Jujutsu Kaisen 0 (anime)
The existence of Miguel Oduol presented a very interesting concept Jujutsu Kaisen: the prospect that there are wizards in other countries who are almost as powerful as Satoru Gojo and who have also influenced the societies of their respective homelands. However, this brilliant concept was never fully explored until the end of the manga, not to mention that not much was shown about Yuta's training in Africa.
While Miguel was able to demonstrate his impressive skills in the final fight against Sukuna, he was taken away when things became too difficult and later returned to Kenya as usual. That's it? Miguel is an extremely strong wizard, so it would have been fascinating to see what curses and wizards he has to contend with in his country and how his experiences in Japan have affected him.
4 Yuki Tsukumo
The strongest sorceress was summarily killed
- First appearance: Chapter 50 (Manga) Episode 20 (Anime)
As the only female special magician and mentor of Aoi Todo, fans were waiting for this Yuki Tsukumo to demonstrate their full abilities for many years. She finally got her chance in an intense battle against Kenjaku, and with her powerful techniques and bombastic personality, she had the potential to become one of the series' most popular characters.
However, Yuki unfortunately couldn't survive her encounter with one of the main opponents and was suddenly killed when Kenjaku used an anti-gravity technique out of nowhere. This was disappointing because after so many years of buildup, Yuki was killed off in the blink of an eye, weakening the impact of her entire character.
3 Nobara Kugisaki
She eventually resurfaced when the manga only had a few chapters left
- First appearance: Chapter 3 (Manga) Episode 2 (Anime)
Against Akutami's dealings with Nobara Kugisakis Character was divisive. While she was introduced as the main female character in the series and quickly proved to be a likeable friend and strong sorcerer, she left the story after her fatal encounter with Mahito during the Shibuya Incident.
For many years, fans wondered whether Nobara was actually dead or not. She eventually reappeared in the story in Chapter 267, where she helped Itadori finish off Sukuna using her Resonance Technique. As epic as this moment was, the manga ended just four chapters later and Nobara was absent for most of it. She was eventually reintroduced and resumed her normal life with no clear resolution to her story, if one can even be assumed to have one.
2 Kenyaku
One of the main opponents didn't even get a proper farewell
- First appearance: Chapter 10 (Manga) Episode 5 (Anime)
The evil wizard Kenyaku had a personal conflict with two of the series' main characters: Satoru Gojo, for possessing his best friend's body and imprisoning him in the Prison Empire, and Yuji Itadori, for possessing the woman who would later become his mother in order to be the perfect vessel for Sukuna to accomplish.
Despite these intense personal disputes, neither Gojo nor Itadori ever had the chance to fight or even interact with Kenjaku before he was suddenly killed by Yuta. There's no denying that his comedic final fight with Fumihiko Takaba was one of the most brilliant moments in the entire manga, but it's quite unfortunate that not much was shown about Kenjaku after his decisive defeat. Later, Takaba is seen preparing a new comedy routine with a man who closely resembles Geto. Is this supposed to be a form of Kenjaku?
1 Satoru Gojo
He was successfully unsealed, only to die a few chapters later
- First appearance: Chapter 0-1 (Manga) Episode 1 (Anime)
Til today Satoru Gojo's Death is one of the most contentious and contentious moments of all Jujutsu Kaisen. On paper, this is an interesting idea, as he is undeniably such a powerful character that his death left a huge void in jujutsu society and Sukuna would have taken over if it weren't for Gojo's friends and allies.
The problem is that Gojo was trapped in the prison kingdom by Kenjaku and therefore didn't appear in the story at all for almost 140 chapters. Unlike Nobara, Gojo was killed just a few chapters after his reintroduction. The fight itself was exciting – one of the best in the series – but Sukuna's victory felt cheap and undeserved.
While Gojo had a huge influence on Itadori, who will continue his legacy, it wasn't enough for such a beloved icon. Gojo was a really entertaining and complex character, so it's a real shame that he was cut from the manga in such a disappointing way.
