Jet Set Radio reboot and remake news announced for 2025

A little over a year ago, Sega announced that it was working on reboots and sequels to several popular IPs.
One such series is Jet Set Radio, from which we have only seen a very brief portion of gameplay.
In a recent statement, some veterans of the game hinted that there will finally be more news in 2025.

Some of the Sega developers behind the Jet Set Radio reboot have suggested releasing news about the series sometime in 2025 to celebrate the series' 25th anniversary.

In recent years, Sega has shown a lot more interest in its extensive catalog of classic games, which finally reached its peak at the 2023 Game Awards. After months of rumors and leaks, Sega confirmed that it is working on reboots, remakes and sequels to some of its missing IPs, including Golden Ax, Shinobi and Streets of Rage.

Alongside Crazy Taxi, the largest of these projects is Jet Set Radio, with some gameplay footage briefly shown during the Power Surge trailer at the Game Awards. Although we know that most of these projects have been a few years in coming, we haven't heard anything about the reboot since then, something that could finally change in 2025.

Jet-set radio veterans suggest news is coming this year

Earlier this week, Japanese gaming site 4Gamer published a compilation of comments from developers from a variety of studios, including some Jet Set Radio veterans working on the reboot. As Redditor ElecXeron20XX pointed out, one of those developers is Jet Set Radio director Masayoshi Kikuchi, who noted that he is still working on a new game in the series.

In addition to confirming that development is still progressing, Kikuchi points out that 2025 marks Jet Set Radio's 25th anniversary, which he is still considering how to celebrate. Although Kikuchi doesn't say it directly, this seems to indicate that there will be some news for the reboot in 2025 to mark the anniversary, as this seems like the perfect way to celebrate the series.

Kikuchi wasn't the only veteran, however, as Jet Set Radio's chief graphic designer Ryuta Ueda confirmed his involvement in the new game, but noted that he wasn't fully involved yet due to the birth of his child. Ueda asks fans to “look forward to new information” at the end of his statement.

While Ueda and Kikuchi are probably both talking about the Jet Set Radio reboot, which we've seen footage of and which appears to be the next project in the series, it's worth noting that there have also been rumors of a remake of the first game for some time . It's not clear if we'll hear more about this before the free-to-play reboot, but here's hoping.
