Key insights
- The golden bell symbolizes the Shandorians' ancestors and is pushed by Luffy to help the descendants.
- Poneglyphs contain historical knowledge and lead to Laugh Tale, where One Piece is believed to exist.
- Ancient weapons include Pluton, Poseidon and Uranus, each linked to sea level rise and having destructive potential.
The titular Macguffin from One piece is an artifact whose exact nature is unclear, but which is at least a physical object. Ironically, since the execution of Gol D. Roger, which was intended to scare away all pirates, many chose to engage in piracy out of interest in this mysterious object and Roger's treasure.
Monkey D. Luffy is one of those many pirates who aspire to become the Pirate King. Roger's discovery of the One Piece had apparently allowed him to do the same, which is why so many are looking for it. However, it is far from the only important artifact identified in history. Here are some other important pieces of the puzzle.

Oda based some of his characters on figures from popular culture. Below you will find some examples.
5 Golden bell
The Light of Shandora
Kalgara, a Shandorian warrior and ancestor of Wyper, explained that the Golden Bell served a variety of purposes. It signaled their presence to the world, symbolized their ancestral homeland, and represented their fearlessness in the face of invaders. Gol D. Roger had Kozuki Oden write a message on the bell when they came across it. Recently, Luffy Enel poked into this artifact so that Mont Blanc Cricket, the descendant of Noland, a friend of Kalgara, could hear it. Unfortunately, this also destroyed the bell tower in which it was housed.

One Piece: 5 Characters Who Won't Return
For one reason or another, these characters are unlikely to return to the series for the foreseeable future, if ever.
The bell rang again to thank the Straw Hats, who fled the island before the Shandorians could thank them. Since the timeskip, the bell has been restored to good condition and freed from the vines that once surrounded it.
4 Poneglyphs
Old inscriptions
These huge stelae contain untranslated historical knowledge. Only two living people can read them: Nico Robin, the only scholar to survive the Ohara Massacre; and Kozuki Sukiyaki, a descendant of their creators. The steles are supposed to be indestructible – probably because otherwise the world government would have destroyed them long ago.
Three variants of these cubic structures are currently known. According to their name, the historical Poneglyphs document both messages and information about ancient history. The teaching poneglyphs lead the reader to the historical ones. Finally, the road poneglyphs are four red colored poneglyphs (instead of the typical dark blue variant). These allow the reader to reach Laugh Tale, where the One Piece presumably exists.
There is also the Rio Poneglyph, a combination of nine individual Poneglyphs. It is believed to contain the true history of the world, including the forbidden “Century of the Void”, which people were murdered to explore.
3 Ancient weapons
weapons of mass destruction
Pluton, Poseidon and Uranus were active during World War I and appear to be responsible for continued sea level rise. Joy Boy was involved in their preservation for reasons currently unknown. Many power-hungry people attempt to collect one or more of these objects, seeing them as a deterrent to anyone who would challenge their power.
Pluton
Pluton, which has been called the “worst battleship in the world,” was built in Water 7 a long time ago. Said to be capable of destroying islands with a single shot, it rests in a dormant state beneath Wano's Mount Fuji. Spandam convinced the Five Elders to allow him to retrieve the blueprints for Pluton in order to develop a countermeasure. In reality, Spandam wanted to recreate Pluton and use it to overthrow the world government. These blueprints were passed down by the shipbuilders in Water 7 for years.
Tom, Franky and Iceburg's mentor, was one of their final recipients. Spandam's operation to obtain the blueprints was the main reason Cipher Pol 9 infiltrated Water 7. However, Franky destroyed the blueprints and prevented the government from taking direct countermeasures against the ancient weapon.

One Piece: 5 characters born during the story
These characters were only born after Monkey D. Luffy began his journey. Consequently, most of them are babies.
Poseidon
Poseidon is a mermaid princess who can command and communicate with sea kings, large aquatic monsters that inhabit every ocean in the world. The potential of this ability depends on whose orders the Sea Kings follow, allowing for destruction or redemption on a global scale.
The current incarnation of Poseidon is Shirahoshi, the princess of the Ryugu Kingdom, who is a distant descendant of another mermaid who once possessed this ability. Unable to control her powers at a young age, Shirahoshi accidentally summoned sea kings with her screams. Years later, when her kingdom was attacked, she showed a greater degree of control over it.
Uranus
Uranus is currently undetectable, but it is believed to share the same destructive potential as its counterparts. Caribou, who had learned about every weapon during his travels with the Straw Hat Pirates, informed the Blackbeard Pirates of their existence. This likely means Teach and his crewmates will make an effort to collect them in the future.
2 The empty throne
A hollow symbol
The Empty Throne is said to be at the center of the world. It has existed for centuries and is said to have had no occupant as a symbol of equality guaranteed by the world government. During the Levely, people often gather around it, but no one, not even one of the Five Elders, is allowed to sit on it. 19 weapons surround this massive throne – those of the original 19 rulers who chose to become world nobles. Nefertari Lili's weapon remains absent.
In reality, the throne is occupied by Imu, the mysterious ruler of the world who commands the Five Elders. This being's existence remains secret to maintain the illusion that the world government is a fair and equal system, not ruled by a single being. Cobra was murdered in part because he had identified Imu, and Sabo's own discovery of the creature was met with similar attempts. Ultimately, the Empty Throne and the truth behind it will serve as a crucial key to informing people about how the World Government actually works.
1 Roger's straw hat
Currently on Luffy's head
Gol D. Roger wore this straw hat when he was a freshman. He later passed it on to Shanks, one of his cabin boys. Shanks himself later allowed a young Monkey D. Luffy to borrow him, hoping that he would return the Straw Hat when he became a “great pirate.” It later became both Luffy's nickname and that of his crew. Due to its history as a Shanks hat, it has great sentimental value for Luffy and also serves as a way to connect him to Roger from a distance. Shanks doesn't shy away from comparing his protege to the legendary figure that was his former captain.
However, the hat may have greater historical value than previously thought. In Mary Geoise, a giant ice-cold straw hat is kept, the audience saw Imu looking at it. The significance of this hat and its connection to Roger's Hat are currently unknown.
