How Nobara could keep up with Yuji and Megumi

This article contains spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen's final arc.

Summary

  • Nobara is the least developed character in JJK as Yuji is not given the attention she deserves as the protagonist.

  • Nobara still has a lot of potential and could catch up to Yuji and Megumi with refined techniques.

  • Nobara's growth and chance to shine in JJK's future may depend on possible side stories or spin-offs from the manga's conclusion.

From the beginning Jujutsu KaisenFans could tell that Nobara would be extremely important. After all, she was part of the main trio of the story, which, as is often the case in the Shonen series, drove the plot forward more than any other. However, Nobara being a woman certainly made fans wonder whether or not the author would be able to do her justice. In shonen series, female characters are often pushed to the side and don't receive as much attention as the other main characters. Even the main female characters are often treated subpar. Unfortunately, Jujutsu Kaisen did exactly that.

It has to be said that Nobara is one of the worst written female characters in shonen history, and the author failed to do justice to her character, especially after cutting her out of most of the story and only bringing her back after about three years Chapter before the end. That said, Nobara still has a lot of potential, and if JJK were ever to move on, fans could see her catching up to the other two, assuming the author actually makes some effort to fix everything that's wrong with her progression.

Yuji Itadori, Nobara and Megumi's progress in JJK

  • Yuji Itadori received the most attention as the protagonist

  • Nobara was the least developed character

Jujutsu Kaisen is definitely a fantastic story, and while it has many flaws, it still contains many incredibly fascinating elements that fans have come to love over the years. From exciting battles to liberating scenes, JJK has many things to proudly display. But the development of the main characters, especially the next generation like Yuji and Megumi, was certainly not the highlight. It can be said that Yuji was treated much better than the other two characters, but that's to be expected considering he's the main character. But even with this main character, the author certainly didn't do the best he could. The vast majority of Yuji's growth took place in the final chapters of the manga, which just goes to show how rapid this progress was.

I can't be the only one going back if these two are still out there fighting. – Nobara

As for Megumi, fans know that while he had a lot of potential, that's what he was known for in history JJK Community, he could never really fulfill it. Megumi didn't even end his empire and most of his powers remained unexplored. In the Shibuya Incident, Megumi's body was taken over by Sukuna and from that moment until the end of the story, Megumi remained under Sukuna's control, only to be freed at the end. This also greatly slowed Megumi's progress.

Nobara's case was the worst of all three. While the other two had some moments here and there in the story, the focus was only on Nobara in the beginning. Fans were very hopeful as they saw Nobara's character evolve in the early parts of the story. However, the further JJK continued, the more clear it became that she wouldn't be as important anymore.

In fact, she was presumed dead in the Shibuya Incident storyline, and from that point on, the author never focused on her in the story until the end. Nobara only returned for a few chapters before the story ended, dealt a blow to Sukuna, and called it a day. While her return certainly wasn't out of the question as there were always hints of a possible comeback, the timing of it was completely off and fans certainly didn't appreciate it.

How Nobara can keep up with the others

Nobara Kugisaki is far behind but has the potential to catch up

It goes without saying that Nobara is pretty powerful right now. Of course, she's not as strong as Yuji or even Yuta, but she definitely has a lot of potential. Gojo once said that the next generation wouldn't stop at Special Grade.

Of course, they didn't even get the special grade, which is another indication of weak writing, but at least they still have that potential.

My name is Nobara Kugisaki. Be happy guys, I'm the woman in your group. – Nobara

A lot of what happens to Nobara's character depends on how the story continues from this point. The manga is officially over, but that doesn't mean it's over JJK will ever get an additional side story. It's quite common for authors to often write side stories after completing the main stories, and JJK is no different in this regard. Of course, Gege wants to draw a different story, but the possibility of there being a JJK one-shot or mini-series spin-off shouldn't be ruled out. If that happens and you focus on the events after the conclusion of Wizards, then you can say that Nobara will have a chance to shine. Fans got to see her getting the attention she truly deserved, especially after going through a very difficult time in the original series.

How Nobara can catch up with the other two can only be achieved by improving her technique. The Straw Puppet Technique is very powerful and the biggest advantage of this technique is that it directly targets the souls of enemies. Nobara is one of the hardest soul hitters in JJK, probably only second to Yuji. This makes her a massive threat to the vast majority of fighters in history, and fans know that she could very well improve and develop her technique significantly.

Gege's message in the last volume could indicate a continuation of the JJK manga.

If Nobara manages to acquire the basic skills required to be a high-level sorceress, such as: Such as domain reinforcement, reverse cursed technique and other anti-domain techniques as well as barrier techniques, fans can expect it to reach a very high level. In addition, fans were also able to see Nobara's domain expansion. If she ever manages to achieve domain expansion, she could certainly be among the elite. Nobara's sure-hit technique would directly strike the enemy's soul and could be similar in many ways to Yuji's soul dismemberment, which he used on Sukuna. Fans must remember how much damage Yuji did to Sukuna, and Nobara could do something similar with her powers, which just goes to show that she would be at a very high level if the author actually showed off her strength in the many battles would that could come into the future of JJK.

Will Nobara ever get a chance to shine again?

Nobara Kugisaki's growth depends on the future of JJK

Nobara Kugisaki

Whether or not Nobara ever gets a chance to shine depends heavily on what happens JJK. As things stand, there is no confirmation that the story will continue in any way, shape or form. But fans can't hold on to hope because in most cases writers tend to write one-shots, spin-offs or other side stories in one way or another. If that really happens, fans will be happy to know that Nobara will make great strides in the future.

Jujutsu Kaisen's epilogue was released with the final volume. The final volume of JJK will be released in Japan on December 25, 2024. The English version of the volume will be released sometime in 2025.
