Game Freak Hack Reveals Pokemon X/Y Should Get DLC

Key insights

  • As leaked in the huge Game Freak hack, Nintendo has scrapped its plans for Pokémon X/Y DLC.
  • We don't know what these two expansions would have entailed, but perhaps they would have eventually brought us to southern Kalos.

After Pokémon X/Y – who was the ghost girl in Lumiose City? What is hidden behind the closed doors in the power plant? Since we haven't returned to Kalos yet, these questions still remain, but Game Freak apparently had plans to return to the region with two DLC packs until they were canceled.

What's next for Nintendo after the Pokémon leaks?

Nintendo has resorted to legal remedies in cases like this before, and Pokemon feels like its biggest leak yet.

This discovery was made by leaker Pory, who is still combing through the massive Game Freak hack that was leaked online over the weekend. It's unclear what the DLC would have included, but perhaps it would have further unraveled Zygarde's story and taken us to the long-speculated South Kalos.

This idea has some weight considering that leaks yesterday also revealed that Game Freak has scrapped plans for a South Kalos portion of the map. Perhaps the region was cut to be used in a future DLC that never saw the light of day. We don't know yet, but Pory just got the 30GB portion of the leak containing Pokemon's staff folders

Older leaks revealed that sequels to Pokemon X/Y were also canceled

The most underrated generation of Pokémon just can't catch a break. Four years ago, leaks surfaced that sequels – or at least updated versions à la Platinum and Emerald – were planned for Pokémon X/Y at one point.

Fans speculated at the time that the new game would be called “Pokemon Z” and would focus on the aforementioned legendary Zygarde. After all, they appeared in the next series of games, Sun & Moon. The theory posits that Game Freak didn't scrap all of its work, but instead carried Zygarde's story from the discontinued game into the next generation.

Anyway, we're finally returning to Kalos after over ten years with Pokemon Legends: ZA, so in a roundabout way, Pokemon Z is finally happening.
