Through Funko FusionMany pop culture enthusiasts finally have the opportunity to try out some of their favorite video game IPs: Shaun of the Dead Fans can explore popular locations; Scott Pilgrim vs. the World Fans can finally prove their courage against Ramona's evil ex-boyfriends. The Umbrella Academy Fans can fight their way through every season of the series; and even fans of franchises like Knight Rider or The Great White Shark get their time to shine. Although this made for a unique experience, the way Funko Fusion investigates whether the franchises in question may not be for everyone.
Unlike some other movie tie-in games, Funko Fusion doesn't exactly follow the plot of those films. There are nods and elements to those story highlights, but because it's a multiversal adventure, the actual stories often don't resemble their counterparts from the films. This means that fans get to experience something new in their favorite IPs, but also don't really get to play through the stories they've grown fond of over the years, and that might turn some off from this wild adventure.
The story of Funko Fusion may not match the expectations of some players
Funko Fusion is doing something completely new with its IPs
Funko Fusion follows the rivalry between Funko's mascot Freddy Funko and his arch-nemesis Eddy. Eddy wants to wreak havoc across the multiverse, so he does just that. He heads to the game's seven main worlds to disrupt them, and it's up to the player to stop him. They must go to these worlds, take control of one of the many iconic characters that call these worlds home, and fight back all of Eddy's allies across five levels. Then, when they reach the final level, they must defeat him and steal his crown. Once that's done, they must do it all over again in the next world.
Based on this story, players experience adventures in Funko FusionMany franchises rarely follow the story of that IP. Instead, players get a sort of speedrun version of it, where they get to experience the franchise's biggest hits while Eddy wreaks havoc around them. While it might not be exactly what they expected, this mix can actually be a lot of fun as it turns these iconic stories on their head. So players don't really know what to expect, which can lead to all sorts of unique surprises and unforgettable moments.
Some players might have preferred to experience the stories of these franchises
At the same time Funko Fusion Players might have wanted the game to follow more in the footsteps of Traveller's Tales. LEGO games. In these games, the studio changes some events to make the stories a little more family-friendly. But at the end of the day, they still faithfully recreate many of these stories, making them a treat for fans of said franchises.
Funko Fusion can faithfully recreate the look of these IPs through the Funko lens, but the stories often don't resemble their film counterparts one-to-one. This means that fans who have waited years to get a video game based on something like The Umbrella Academy will probably have to keep waiting because they won't get that here. While these characters may be present, the story being told revolves much more around the antics of Eddy than the core conflict of the show. This is also true of all other existing franchises.
Funko Fusion can be very entertaining for gamers looking for a wild crossover collecting marathon, especially if they are fans of some of these more niche products. However, for those who were really hoping for these IPs to finally get a chance to shine in the gaming space, it might not be such a treat. Because while they are there, they might not be what diehard fans are looking for. There is a chance that some of these franchises could get another chance elsewhere, but at this point Funko Fusion possibly her only game appearance.
