While Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies has seen some major ups and downs in Season 1, such as the release of Citadelle Des Morts and the temporary removal of stealth farming in Director mode, the mode remains very strong overall. In many ways Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies is exactly what players have been wanting after a few years of controversial changes, as the turn-based maps offer strong survival gameplay and plenty of streaks to find. The game also feels like a connection between the modern innovations of Black Ops Cold War and the beloved Black Ops 3 thanks to recurring elements like Gobblegum, although this aspect of the game can still be improved.
To be clear: Gobblegum's implementation in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies is solid. Players can hold three gumballs at a time, can claim one free gum every round, and have a chance to randomly receive any gumball in the game every 8-10 rounds. Minor post-release changes have also added a bit of polish to the system, from cleaning up Gobblegum's HUD section to spawning players with the first three Gums in their pack. In Black Ops 6Gobblegums feel strong but not overpowering, and they can be earned regularly without requiring players to spend COD Points. However, it's less easy to get exactly the Gobblegums players want, which is why it's a shame it doesn't include Newton's Cookbook Black Ops 6. Still, an alternative could fill the gap left by the cookbook.

What was Newton's cookbook in Black Ops 3?
Call of Duty: Black Ops 3The Newton's Cookbook feature essentially allowed players to trade some of their gum for other, more desirable ones. For example, if players had a lot of Killing Time and Temporal Gift gum, but none of the game-changing Perkaholics, they could trade a few of the former for some of the latter, giving them a chance of getting exactly what they want . The three recipes on offer changed daily, giving players a reason to log in each day and giving even their least favorite Gobblegums purpose. When a particularly good recipe came along, it felt like an event Call of duty Zombies fans take the opportunity to collect as many of the rare chewing gums as possible.
Unfortunately, it seems unlikely that Newton's cookbook will be published again Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 For the sole reason that Gobblegums are the main method of monetizing Zombies mode. Players can purchase Gum Packs with COD Points, and Gums appear in Battle Passes, Paid Packs, and as part of Prestige progression. Adding a Newton's Cookbook would prevent players from purchasing Gobblegum packs, as they could simply grind out random Gobblegums to trade for the ones they want when the right recipe appears. Activision would likely be against the return of Newton's Cookbook for this reason, as it could cut off a revenue stream and improving Gobblegum would require a different approach.
The more gums are added, the harder it will be to get the ones players want, as each rarity is augmented by more potential drops.
How could Black Ops 6 improve Gobblegum without Newton's cookbook?
As Newton's cookbook returns Black Ops 6 Zombies may be a pipe dream, but there are other ways Treyarch can make it easier for players to get the gums they're looking for without spending real money or hoping for a good RNG. These options include:
- Chewing gum trade: Perhaps the simplest solution is to allow players to share their gum with their friends, just as they would with a mystery box weapon. Meleeing the machine after spitting out a piece of gum could result in other players picking it up.
- Gobblegum Spins: Something like Dr. Monty's Factory would be great to see Black Ops 6. Although monetization would likely be through paid spins and only one daily spin would be free, giving players another way to earn Gums would be beneficial.
- Gobblegum rewards: Treating Gobblegum as a reward could be an interesting opportunity for Treyarch. How Call of Duty: WarzonePlayers could be awarded medals based on their performance in a game, with a gum tied to each medal. For example, most door purchases could provide gums like Wall-to-Wall Clearance to save generous players money on future runs, while most revivals could provide items like Phoenix Up and Nowhere But There.
No matter what path it ultimately takes, it would be great if Treyarch refined its existing Gobblegum system. While Gobblegum is hardly mandatory and can be earned frequently enough that the current format can't be considered pay-to-win, it's too much of a hassle for players to get the exact Gobblegums they're looking for right now. This can be particularly frustrating since things like stealth challenges require specific gummies, so hopefully a further expansion of Black Ops 6's Gobblegum is planned.
