One of the earliest quests you will take part in Dragon Age: The Veil Guardian is Heart of Corruption, but it's one of the last ones you'll complete. To complete this quest, you will need to fight a total of four powerful, high-level bosses, the last of which is level 50.
The Gate of Pale Reflections opens the way to the third of the four bosses, at least in terms of enemy level. You can fight the three smaller bosses in any order, and both the second and third gate champions are in the same area. If you want to open any of these Dragon Age: The Veil Guardian Just outside the gates you must visit the Hossberg wetlands.

How to defeat Amarell the Unwoven
The Champion of the Gate of Pale Reflections is located in the Solitude's Edge region of Hossberg. His cyst is located to the southwest behind Gaspin Manor. You'll need to start the story quest “Something's Wrong” to gain access to this corner of the map, but you don't need to complete it.
Amarell's moves have many similarities to those of other Gate Champions, but there are some attacks that are unique in their own right. It is a level 35 monster and is vulnerable to fire but resistant to necrotic damage. It has the following attacks and properties:
- A plague barrier. Use charged attacks to destroy it quickly.
- A short range melee combo
- A line attack that hits straight
- A charge attack
- A burst attack that targets Rook's location six to eight times
- A blinding ability that removes every ally and enemy from combat except for Rook and Amarell
- A jumping attack that hits an area around where it lands
- A stone throw that often spawns two ghouls where each stone lands
- A passive nova that deals damage to everyone around it approximately every ten seconds
- Multiple attacks also cause Necrosis, dealing significant necrotic damage to you for several seconds.
- Amarell does not have a stagger bar
Given Amarell's weakness, Taash and Davrin are good choices. However, you should also make sure to bring someone who can heal Rook, as this fight can take a while and there aren't many healing vessels in the swamp.
Your best defense against Amarell is the giant rock in the middle of the swamp. It's tall enough to block his melee, dash, and line attacks, and he doesn't usually climb it unless you're standing on the rock yourself. Aside from that and the constant explosions, it's a good idea to stay in range during this fight. After defeating Amarell, take a moment to check the stone where the cyst was located. You will find a Timelost Hoards chest with a unique item inside.

How to beat Fall of the Protector
The Gate of Pale Reflections is located in the Heights of Athim area at the Crossroads. It's at the end of the zip line that goes around the side of the main building. As with Heart of Corruption's other bosses, the Caretaker appears before you enter the boss chamber to warn you of the upcoming battle. Unlike the other two bosses, there is nothing to pick up and no one to fight before reaching the boss's chamber.
The fight against Fall of the Protector actually begins with a fight against the undead horde. Several Superior Frenzied Dead appear as well as some Superior Undead Warriors. Defeat 14 of them and the rest will collapse. Instead, Fall of the Protector teleports onto the battlefield and faces you directly.
Fall of the Protector is a level 42 boss that is vulnerable to cold and resistant to fire. While the first two corruption bosses are spear and shield warriors, Fall is a mage-type enemy that attacks from a distance. On the one hand, this means that all of your attacks will land since he can't block them with his shield. On the other hand, Fall is more powerful and doesn't care where you are on the battlefield. Here is his starting move set:
- A teleportation that damages a small area around the location he teleports to
- An ice missile attack that fires two projectiles directly at you, then a fan of seven projectiles
- A meteor swarm that hits six randomly placed small areas and one large area in the center of its target

Dragon Age: The Veilguard – The Hall of Valor Battle Guide
Recruiting Taash in Dragon Age: The Veilguard gives you access to the Hall of Valor, where you can practice fighting a variety of enemies.
Once you've knocked down his barrier and about two-fifths of his health, Fall of the Protector will teleport to the Fade Rift and begin drawing power from it. He also regains a full barrier bar. If you don't break through this barrier by the time he finishes attacking, he will explode and deal damage to Rook no matter where you are in the arena. If you break through his barrier, you will have several seconds to strike him unhindered.
Unfortunately, this second phase also causes the boss to fight harder. First, the case summons three superior armored undead. These defenders carry large shields that can block uncharged attacks and can harass you from a distance with their necrotic projectile attacks. They are prone to necrosis and resistant to cold. Second, Fall gains two new attacks:
- He can always aim at his target with a beam attack, which means you have to keep running until the attack ends. The outcome of this attack can be difficult to detect.
- A blinding ability that reduces combatants to a ruckus and a fall. The only way to end this ability seems to be to deal enough damage to Fall.
The best strategy for this phase is to use area abilities and your allies to deal with the armored undead so you can turn your attention to Fall of the Protector. It's especially important to continue your attacks on him, as he tends to regenerate his barrier if you leave him alone for too long. Another option is to focus on one armored undead at a time, but Fall's beam and projectile attacks are difficult to ignore.
Luckily in Fall there is no third phase and no reinforcements once you defeat the armored undead. After defeating him, be sure to read the note below about where the Fade Rift was, then head to the western end of the arena to pick up a souvenir and a Timelost Hoard chest. There is a lever here at the gate that opens a shortcut back to the rest of the Heights of Athim.
Defeating Fall of the Protector will award you 5 Ethereal Remnants, 350 XP, +100 Mourning Guard Strength, and another Essence, which you will need to complete the Heart of Corruption quest.
