Life is Strange: Double Exposure follows the other games in the series and tasks you with solving a few puzzles to get the information you need to solve the larger puzzle. One of these puzzles involves unlocking Vinh's phone to find out what he is hiding.
Max is supposed to find out who murdered Safi Life is Strange: Double Exposureand Vinh is one of her main suspects in Chapter 2. This is mainly because he behaves very suspiciously towards his phone and therefore she has to find the passcode to unlock it and discover its secret.

Before diving into the Life is Strange universe, players should be aware of some unwritten rules regarding its choices and exploration options.
How to unlock Vinh's phone
The first step of this mission is to talk to Vinh in the Quad while you are in the living world. This is available after you leave the bar at the start of the chapter. He lost his phone and suspects Diamond stole it. Talk to Diamond and eavesdrop on the Abraxas members nearby to find out that she probably didn't do it, and Vinh will tell you that you can find him in his office later.
You won't be able to find him in his office right away, so complete the other two missions in the Fine Arts Building. Once you're done, you can find Vinh back in his office in the Living World. He found his phone but is being very secretive about it. He mentions that he can't remember his passcode because he's so hungover, but he knows it has something to do with the day a certain wizard-scientist died.
Max will note that luckily she knows another Vinh to talk to, and this is your cue to transition into the world of the dead by using her dimensional powers. Head back to Vinh's office in the Dead World and you'll find him drinking on the couch a little early in the day. While talking to him, you can either use the favor he owes you to get his passcode, or you can find out which mage-scientist he was talking about in the Living World.
He will tell you the magician's name, Jack Parsons. From here you need to look in the library for a book that will tell you exactly what year he died. The book is on the shelves right next to the fireplace, to the left as you enter the library. If you're not sure where to find the library, you helped Gwen get the book from the locked bookshelf.
Now that you have the code, return to the Living World and back to Vinh's office. He won't be there, but his phone will be on his desk. Use the passcode to open it and discover the secret it hides, and Max will be one step closer to solving the mystery of who killed Safi Life is Strange: Double Exposure.
