Since its release in 1997 One piece has changed drastically over the years. With a different tone, intensity and scale, it hardly feels like the same silly pirate adventure it once did. This is particularly true of many of the series' characters, who have changed in some way to better fit what they do One piece is, and not what it was.
While some members of the Straw Hat crew, such as Brook or Luffy himself, have undergone minimal design changes after the fact, others, such as Chopper and Franky, look completely different compared to their original appearances in the series. Additionally, their personalities have also undergone some small but noticeable changes. While many are disappointed with Chopper's changes, the One piece The community seems divided on whether the time jump ruined Franky's character.

Super! – Franky's catchphrase
After One piece Time Skip saw Franky improve in many ways, although this was a major downgrade in the eyes of some fans. Well, Franky doesn't resemble a human with hidden cyborg parts. Instead, he is a giant machine that is more robot than human. While this is arguably the natural progression of Franky's ingenuity, for some fans it was just too much of a change. Additionally, the character now seems a bit more monotonous in terms of personality, as his interests are mostly focused on machines and building.
Franky's new design is bulky and strange
But it fits his character
Overall, Franky's design may not be downgraded as much as most One piece Fans think. Looking at Franky's visual design, Franky previously had an excellent design that combined his toughness, ingenuity, and emotional nature in a cyborg package. While the new design is less visually appealing, it still hits the three main points of Franky's character.

More robotic ingenuity than anything else

When Franky does have a comedic moment, it mostly focuses on his love of robotics and strange inventions rather than any other aspect of the character.
