Post-release, updates to Fortune's Run continued to flow at a steady pace. Unfortunately, the game is now on hold as the game's developer was sentenced to three years in prison.
Fortune's Run development “implodes”
Fortune's Run was already facing major hurdles in July. Half of the two-person development team underwent major surgery, which drastically slowed the game's development and resulted in a “significant delay.” After the operation, the other developer left the project, deciding that she was “no longer interested in game development.”
A little over six months later, the game's remaining developer, now working on their own, shared an open message on the game's Steam page about it “imploding.”
“I was sentenced to prison for the next three years. It's a long story, but I lived a very different life before becoming a game developer, and I wasn't doing particularly well. My case has been going on for about five years.” Now I'm old, I've been going through the court process the whole time I've been working on it, and I was finally found guilty and I'm leaving next month. It's a shame, but it's the consequences that I have I was a very violent person and “I hurt a lot of people in my life,” they said, adding: “So the game is not COMPLETELY dead, but unfortunately it is unclear what will happen because more bad things are happening.”
The game isn't COMPLETELY dead yet, but due to other bad things happening, it's unfortunately unclear what will happen.
They continued and said, “Development will be completely paused until my release. I know many of you will be upset and disappointed, but please understand that there is absolutely nothing I can do, these wheels were already in motion long before I started developing this game.” and it has All the while slowly dissolving on my face.
I would like to finish this, but I don't know what will happen. I will do my best because I love this game and want to finish it. Seriously, I just want to finish it.
Ahead of release, the developer released another major update for the game, sharing that “there's not much content left to work on.” It's just a matter of when they next get a chance.
