Dead Rising 2 Remake or Deluxe Remaster is “definitely possible”

Key insights

  • Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster has just been released, but it seems that more remasters are possible in the future.
  • In a recent interview, the developers of Deluxe Remaster said that it's “definitely possible” to give Dead Rising 2 the same treatment.
  • It seems it all depends on how Deluxe Remaster sells, so it will be some time before we know for sure.

The developers behind Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster confirmed in a recent interview that it's “definitely possible” that Dead Rising 2 gets the same treatment in the future.

Even though the Dead Rising series has only just awakened from the grave that Dead Rising 4 left it in, the series' future appears to be much brighter than it has been in a long time. Not only do we finally have a remake (well, even if Capcom doesn't consider it one) of the iconic first game, it also looks like later entries could get the same treatment.

Earlier this week, Capcom celebrated the release of Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster with a poll asking fans what they want next from the series. Although there is an option for a brand new game, the most exciting part of the survey was the suggestion that Dead Rising 2 (and Off The Record) could end up getting a deluxe remaster, which has now been confirmed by the game's developers.

Dead Rising 2 Deluxe Remaster is “definitely possible”

Chuck Greene builds a combo weapon in Dead Rising 2.

Inverse recently had the opportunity to speak with several members of the Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster development team, including director Ryosuke Murai, original game director Yoshinori Kawano, art director Satoshi Takamatsu, and producer Kei Morimoto. During the interview, the team is asked about the possibility of Chuck Greene getting his own remake next.

In response, Deluxe Remaster producer Kei Morimoto says that a Dead Rising 2 Deluxe remaster or remake is “definitely possible” as long as the reception and sales of the first game's remaster make it feasible. Morimoto says that the team is “doing like Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster” and that if they find a “suitable time” to sell a remake of Dead Rising 2, it would be considered.

A remake or remastering of Dead Rising 2 is certainly possible. We are currently monitoring the market trends and performance of Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster. If we find a suitable time when we could sell a remake or remaster of Dead Rising 2, there is a possibility of considering the project. -Kei Morimoto

The gist of this is that Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster sales need to impress Capcom in order for more games in the series to be remastered or re-released. We currently don't know how the game will perform considering it hasn't been released physically yet, but we do at least know that it's receiving good reviews and has received a lot of love from fans.
