Of these, the Wizard is probably the most obvious, as he controls the Weave. Related to a DnD Throughout the campaign, players will find various items to help them, with intelligence-boosting items being crucial to such magical builds as they use them to cast spells. Items found that provide bonuses to or with Intelligence are incredibly valuable and can lead to powerful magical builds.
Updated on October 15, 2024 by Hamza Haq: In Baldur's Gate 3, intelligence and magic are inextricably linked, as two sides of the same coin. What strengthens intelligence also strengthens spellcasting, albeit indirectly, and vice versa. This makes items that increase spell effectiveness and reliability desirable items for Intelligence-based characters, and are often more useful than just a blanket INT increase. Of course, stat buffs will always have their place, but as the game progresses into the later acts their value begins to diminish in the face of OP items that don't necessarily directly contribute to intelligence, but the buff intelligence classes are all the same.
7 Sharp Wizard's Hat
Ensures that spell attacks never result in critical failures
Any character who invests in intelligence Baldur's Gate 3 is a wizard of some sort, meaning that items that make casting easier will directly benefit him. Sharp Wizard's Hat is a helmet that ensures that every time a spell attack roll is a critical fail, i.e. the die rolls a 1 or 2, the die is re-rolled.
This means that compared to other types of attacks, spell attack rolls are much more likely to hit and are less dependent on chance. It's as if the player has a permanent advantage on these types of rolls with the knowledge that they can never fail catastrophically. For spellcasters, there are few things more rewarding than this.
6 The pointy hat
Grants a bonus on Persuasion checks based on the user's Intelligence modifier
- Found in a chest in the Last Days Circus behind Lucretious.
Dialogue is an important part of it Baldur's Gate 3, with many crucial moments associated with it. Some classes are naturally better at maneuvering dialogue than others, with wizards not being as good at it.
The pointy hat Grants a certain level of fluency when engaging in dialogue and grants a bonus on Persuasion checks equal to the user's Intelligence modifier. Given that wizards are one of the main classes that utilize intelligence, wearing this hat can be a useful choice for certain dialogue-heavy parts of the game.
5 Infernal rapier
Uses the spell modifier on attack rolls
- Given through dialogue in Wyll's quest in the Mind Flayer Colony.
While Intelligence is primarily associated with wizards, as they are the main class that uses it, it is additionally used by other subclasses. Eldritch Knights and Arcane Trickster Rogue scale with Intelligence for their spells.

Baldur's Gate 3: Best One-Handed Weapons
If players want a better chance of fending off the hordes of the Absolute in Baldur's Gate 3, then look for these one-handed weapons.
Wizards can't do that Infernal rapiersince it is a rapier and not a staff, but Eldritch Knights and Arcane Trickster Rogues have the required skills. Therefore, this weapon can be useful for these classes since it uses the spell modifier on attack rolls, and since it also scales with Intelligence, it can be a worthwhile item.
4 Markoheshkir
Legendary battlestaff +2 that imbues the user with elemental magic
For intelligence-based classes, and indeed any type of wizard: Markoheshkir is one of the best legendary weapons ever Baldur's Gate 3. It is a +2 quarterstaff with a unique effect that makes it incredibly powerful. When equipped, Markoheshkir increases spell save DC and spell attack rolls by +1, allows the wielder to cast a spell of their choice without expending a spell slot, and grants them the ability to imbue themselves with elemental magic.
Markoheshkir is strongest in the hands of an elemental caster like the evocation caster. This is due to his special ability, Kereska's Favor, which grants the caster an element of their choice: lightning, thunder, poison, fire, cold, or acid. For example, a character imbued with lightning also gains two lightning spells (Lightning Strike, Chain Lightning), as well as a direct increase to their lightning damage and increased lightning resistance. Additionally, this buff lasts until the next long rest or until Markoheshkir is no longer equipped. It is an incredibly powerful weapon for wizards, especially those who rely on intelligence.
3 Distorted Headband of Intellect
Increases Intelligence to 17
- Dropped by Lump the Enlightened in the Corrupted Village.
Opportunities to improve stats will of course be valuable items for players. However, that is Distorted Headband of Intelligence isn't as useful with wizards since the class already has a high Intelligence score.
The Warped Headband of Intelligence can be valuable for all other classes that need an increase in Intelligence, especially Eldritch Knight and Arcane Trickster as they also need other stats in their builds. Since Intelligence increases the chance of hitting an enemy with a spell, the Warped Headband of Intelligence can be a strong early purchase for these classes.
2 Mirror of loss
Increases each ability by +2
- Found in the House of Sorrow.
The first mirror can be found in Shar's glove, but it is broken. At the end of Shadowheart's questline, players visit the House of Sorrow, where they can interact with them Mirror of loss to potentially increase every ability, including Intelligence, by +2.

While players in Baldur's Gate 3 can choose anyone as their main character, it can be argued that Shadowheart is the game's true protagonist.
Hidden behind a few dialogue checks, the mirror can increase Intelligence by +2, a buff that can stack with other skill-boosting items. However, players need to be adequately prepared as it can be a bit difficult to pass the required dialogue checks.
1 Aunt Ethel's hair
Increases an ability by +1
- Awarded by Aunt Ethel after reducing her health to 20% and activating non-lethal damage in her boss fight.
It will always be important to achieve an item that can increase a player's ability score by +1. Aunt Ethel's hair does exactly that and increases all of the player's abilities by +1.
Obviously, the +1 boon the hair grants is extremely valuable, but players can obtain the item as soon as they exit the Nautiloid if they wish. The buff is also permanent, making it an incredibly early item that lasts until the end of a playthrough and can stack with others' bonuses.
