Season 3 of Subject: Zero was a revelation in 2024, bringing a lot of hype and excitement to the Isekai genre as Subaru Natsuki fights against a host of Sin Archbishops in the latest installment of the anime. As Team Emilia reunites with the other Royal Selection candidates, their group is interrupted when the witch cult Priestella infiltrates and wreaks havoc on Subaru's citizens and acquaintances.

8 Episode Six – “Conditions Of The Knight”

Priscilla puts on a tough performance as the plans against the witch cult continue


While the sixth episode is perhaps the most relaxed and slow-paced episode of the season so far, Priscilla Barielle makes a big impression as the insane Royal Selection contestant enters. Right off the bat, Priscilla saves Subaru from impending doom by destroying Capella Emerada Lugunica's minions, with the visual spectacle being some of it Subject: Zero Best animation so far. While Priscilla is looking for action, Subaru sets out with his loyal comrades to take revenge on the witch cult.

Meanwhile, Emilia is looking for a way out of her prison. Regulus Corneas is there to monitor Emilia and his women. As a subplot, the exploration of the evil and vengeful Regulus makes the witch cult a much more fascinating group of misfits whose misguided actions are in the spotlight.

7 Episode Eight – “The One I Will Love One Day”

The wheels start moving as Subaru and his allies begin their plan to stop the witch cult once and for all


Midway through the season, episode eight focuses on setting the stage for the Counter Attack arc, with much of the episode devoted to the War Council and its plan to defeat the Witch Cult. With the powerful Reinhard van Astrea available to fight, Subaru and his group, filled with characters from all Royal Selection sides, come together and form specific groups to take on specific Sin Archbishops throughout Priestella.

While much is set, some interesting details emerge: the revelation of the Tome of Wisdom still exists and Theresia van Astrea is brought back into the fold, leading to situations that could dramatically change the events to come. In the final moments, Emilia's about-face on Regulus at the wedding ceremony and the arrival of Subaru and Reinhard give audiences a glimpse of the all-out war to come, and the episode sets the stage for an epic second half of the season.


6 Episode Three – “Beautiful Tiger”

An emotional roller coaster ride where Garfiel shows his vulnerable side

While Regulus' kidnapping of Emilia sets things up, much of the episode focuses on the continuation of Garfiel Tinzel and Mimi Pearlbaton's travels in Priestella and their exploration of Garfiel's mother, Reala Thompson.

5 Episode One – “Theatrical Malice”

A pleasant reunion with the Royal Selection is cut short because the witch cult leaves its mark


In the hour-long season opener, the year-long time jump goes smoothly as Subaru and the rest of Team Emilia travel to Priestella in hopes of reclaiming Puck. At the behest of Anastasia Hoshin, all Royal Selection candidates find themselves in the city, with the meeting of certain characters providing exciting fan service. One of the episode's best moments involves its exploration of the challenging relationship between Reinhard and Wilhelm van Astrea, with Subaru's conversation with Wilhelm on the subject being serious and fascinating.

Despite the pleasant and satisfying content of the episode, the cliffhanger in which Subaru and the citizens of Priestella become victims of the new character Sirius brings Subaru back in time, a situation that the character has to deal with again.

4 Episode Four – “Operation: Retake the Government Office”

Subaru's war party full of diverse characters takes on the witch cult


Midway through season three, a war room and party are quickly set up in Priestella following the witch cult's devastating attacks. Led by characters like Subaru, Anastasia, Wilhelm and Julius, the protagonist is surrounded by many fan favorites as the team plans their next steps. In response, a newly formed war party with a cast of characters takes on a group of witch cult members near the town hall where Capella was stationed.

The combination and teamwork between characters like Crusch Karsten, Garfiel and Julius makes for epic viewing. However, the episode's cliffhanger reveals another Sin Archbishop of Gluttony, Roy Alphard, making the events even more disturbing Subject: Zeroare the heroes as the story arc heats up.

3 Episode Five – “A Dark Torrent”

Capella shows her vile and vile nature towards Crusch and Subaru


Although Subaru and his allies press forward with their war plan, they are fully aware of the problems they face, and the fearsome and terrifying Capella makes a shocking debut. After a reboot due to a gruesome death at the hands of the Sin Archbishop of Wrath, Subaru begins a series of events where he works with various characters to help defeat the threat.

What this ensures is pure chaos as Reinhard, Beatrice, Subaru and Emilia shoot at Sirius in vain and the chaotic action sequences are thrilling and mesmerizing. After Sirius and Emilia's epic battle, the appearance of Regulus, intent on stealing the half-elf, leaves the episode on a cliffhanger, with Subaru watching in despair as the person he loves is declared the bride of the heinous sin, Archbishop of Greed.

1 Episode Seven – “The Newest of All Heroes and the Oldest of All Heroes”

Subaru's epic and emotional speech inspires Priestella and his comrades


In Subaru's biggest appearance of the season, the exuberant protagonist literally takes center stage, acting as the voice and representative of the group seeking to destroy the witch cult. As the episode begins with Al and Emilia's brief but interesting communication mirror conversation, Subaru becomes the focus of the warring party.

In one of the best moments of the season, Subaru gives a heartfelt and emotional speech that strikes a chord with the citizens, giving them hope against the witch cult and dispelling the authority of anger in the process. Subaru's triumphant speech shows the characters' development since the beginning of the series, with the once selfish and ignorant protagonist eventually becoming a worthy champion of Emilia and Lugunica.
