A likeable character driven by needs rather than greed

The television year was full of surprising new heroes who captured the hearts of viewers.

His deep inner turmoil drives him to want to quit the game one second and then become desperate for another chance at financial freedom the next. Jung Bae brought a relatable energy to the series and presented an everyman character who would best empathize with such a situation.

7

Geum-Ja, played by Kang Ae-Slm

A tragic story about a mother's love

IMDb

This mother-son duo that appeared at the start of the game seemed like opportunists hoping to make it big with little effort. However, as the series continued and the characters were given a chance to breathe, viewers learned that the truth was much more tragic.

Geum-Ja, an older lady with most of her years behind her, was vigorous in keeping her son out of trouble. Although she made some financial mistakes, she cared little for her own safety and more for that of her son. The concern and compassion that Geum-ja displayed in the second half of the season was an interesting contrast compared to the hostility that surrounded her at the beginning.

6

The Recruiter, played by Gong Yoo

A clear villain that represents the games

The envelopes in Squid Game

The Recruiter appears to be the face of the Squid Games, acting as a scout for hapless individuals who would make excellent cannon fodder for the organization's entertainment. At the start of the season, fans got a closer look at the recruiter aimed at tracking him down and finding out where the games are taking place.

Actor Gong Yoo portrayed this villain spectacularly, giving fans a face to hate and leading to an intense exchange between him and Lee Jung-Jae that left most viewers on the edge of their seats. The Recruiter represents the complicity of the Squid Game soldiers profiting from the death toll, rather than the billionaires laughing behind the scenes.

5

No-Eul, played by Park Gyu-Young

A complicated composition of a figure

KangNo_Eul
Netflix

No-Eul was a wild card this season Squid game due to her character's constant whiplash, going from insensitive to emotional conflict. No-Eul appeared cold to those around her, as she had a dead-end job and received a special invitation to the Squid Game to serve as a soldier rather than a player.

But try as she might, No-Eul showed moments of compassion when confronted with harsh truths, such as a father's dying daughter, participants' organ harvesting, and the black market. Although No-Eul's story isn't over yet, she is one of the most interesting characters of the second season.

4

Su-bong, played by Chol Seung-Hyun

A perfect villain to defend against

TOP plays Thanos
Netflix

Chol Seung-Hyun brought an excellent character to the second season of Squid gamethat fans loved to hate. The “Big Deal” rapper, also known as Thanos, brought chaos, addiction, ego and violence to the show and showed how far desperation can drive a person.

If you could bring any character from the Squid game back from the dead, who would you choose?

Personally, I would have to choose Sae-byeok. Out of all of them, I felt the most personal connection and sympathy with this character as she was participating in the games for her little brother, and I am the oldest sibling to have a younger brother with a similar age difference. I knew she would probably leave at some point, but her death felt especially devastating after she had come so far, shown a more vulnerable side during the game of marbles, and been such a fierce competitor up until her death.

Su-Bong was a narcissistic sociopath who only cared about getting the prize money for himself. His charisma and way with words allowed him to not only manipulate most players, but also bring together a group of subordinates to increase his survivability in the game. Until the end, Thanos was an agent of chaos that made the games interesting.

3

Hyun-Ju played by Park Sung-Hoon

A shooting star of the season

Hyun-ju Squid Game Season 2

Hyun-Ju was an unexpected star of the second season of Squid gamewhich brought her tears, laughter and cheers throughout the game. Park Sung-Hoon gave this character a fantastic performance that had a huge impact on the series.

Hyun, a transgender woman, threw herself into the games to get enough money so she could go somewhere she felt like she belonged. Hyun-Ja is invaluable in almost every game and leads a small group through the games admirably. But as Hyun-Ju found her allies in the games, her decisions put her life in danger.

2

Frontman played by Lee Byung-Hun

A perfect puppeteer role

In-ho (Lee Byung-hun) poses as contestant 001 in Season 2 of Squid Game
Netflix

Lee Byung-Hun brought the sinister frontman to life, reprising his role from the first season. The frontman stepped out of his mask into games this season, presenting himself as an innocent player and gaining the trust of Gi-hun.

By saying the right things at the right times, the frontman carefully examined Gi-hun's beliefs and manipulated the masses out of seemingly pure curiosity. Mirroring O Yeong-Su's role as Player 001 in the previous season, Gi-hun once again fell victim to an act. However, this portrayal of the double agent is much more frightening. His intent is unclear, but his actions speak volumes.

1

Gi-Hun, played by Lee Jung-Jae

Repeat the same task; Expect a different result

Squid Game Season 2

Gi-Hun returns significantly richer, but is empty inside due to the results of the last game. By turning his back on his winnings and instead using them to find and close the games, Gi-hun finds himself in a dangerous position again. Since he has no other choice, he decides to save as many lives as possible and turn the players against the game masters.

Gi-Hun's goal, while noble, is ultimately flawed and questioned by the frontman, or “In-Ho,” who constantly picks apart Gi-Hun's efforts. Watching Gi-Hun fail in his tireless efforts to save lives is a devastating experience, but the climax that could come in the third season is more than enough to keep the game going.
