At least 65 pilot whales die in Scottish mass stranding

LONDON – At least 65 long-finned pilots have died after becoming stranded on an island off the north coast of Scotland, a rescue charity said on Thursday in one of Britain’s biggest mass strandings in recent memory. British Divers Marine Life Rescue said it had been alerted to the stranding earlier that day and sent paramedics to the beach in Sanday, a Scottish island in the Orkney archipelago.
