Genshin Impact is widely recognized for its breathtaking sceneries and beautiful music, but most importantly, for its diverse cast of characters hailing from various corners of Teyvat. To maximize the potential of Genshin Impact characters, travelers need to collect special items known as artifacts.
Artifacts are equippable items that grant useful stats to characters, such as HP, Attack, Crit Rate, Crit DMG, and more. Equipping artifacts from the same set provides bonus effects, helping characters become powerful DPS units or exceptional supports. New players in the world of Teyvat might find the artifact system confusing. Worry not, as this Genshin Impact artifact guide aims to answer all your questions about artifacts and how to use them to build strong characters and teams.

Genshin Impact: All 49 5-Star Characters, Ranked By Power
The coveted 5-star characters in Genshin Impact possess varying power levels. Here’s a ranking of each one currently available.
How to Get Artifacts in Genshin Impact
There are several ways to obtain artifacts in Genshin Impact. For beginners, opening chests and defeating bosses is a reliable way to collect low-tier artifacts with 3-star and 4-star rarities. For players above Adventure Rank 45, farming artifact domains becomes the best option. Below are the main methods for acquiring artifacts:
Opening Chests and Investigating Spots
While exploring the vast regions of Teyvat, you will encounter various chests ranging from common to luxurious. Except for remarkable chests, all types can drop artifacts of 1-star to 3-star rarity, with a rare chance for 4-star artifacts.
In addition to chests, you can find shining spots that can be investigated to collect 1-star or 2-star artifacts. Players needing fodder to level up their artifacts can farm these spots to collect low-tier items for material use.
Defeating Elite Enemies and Bosses
Many enemies in Genshin Impact are classified as elites, such as Mitachurls, Lawachurls, Hilichurl Rogues, large Rifthounds, Kairagis, and others. These enemies have a chance to drop 3-star or 4-star artifacts from sets like the Traveling Doctor, Berserker, Instructor, and The Exile. However, this method is not reliable for artifact farming but can yield a few fodder artifacts.
On the other hand, fighting world bosses and weekly bosses is a more effective way to obtain artifacts. Starting at Adventure Rank 40, bosses reward players with 5-star artifacts upon defeat. You can also get 4-star and 5-star Wanderer’s Troupe and Gladiator’s Finale artifacts from these encounters, alongside pieces from the Traveling Doctor, Berserker, Instructor, and The Exile sets.
Spiral Abyss
The Spiral Abyss is Genshin Impact’s endgame content, where players can test their characters and team-building skills against powerful, high-level enemies. From Floors 9 to 12, achieving nine stars on floor rewards you with one Domain Reliquary: Tier 1 (5-star artifact) and two Domain Reliquary: Tier 2 (4-star artifact). Opening Domain Reliquaries grants players the latest artifacts added to the game.
Artifact Domains
At Adventure Rank 45, level 90 artifact domains become the most efficient way to farm high-tier artifacts. While 5-star artifacts can also drop from domains at Adventure Rank 40, the chances are lower, and you are more likely to get 4-star items. It is recommended to spend resin on artifact domains after reaching Adventure Rank 45.
Genshin Impact has over 16 artifact domains, each featuring two unique artifact sets. Keep reading to learn where to find each set and what they offer.
Genshin Impact: Artifact Types and Stats Explained
In Genshin Impact, each character has five artifact slots: Flower of Life, Plume of Death, Sands of Eon, Goblet of Eonothem, and Circlet of Logos.
- Flower of Life always provides flat HP as its main stat.
- Plume of Death always provides flat ATK.
The other three artifact types can offer a variety of main stats:
Sands of Eon
- ATK%
- HP%
- DEF%
- Elemental Mastery
- Energy Recharge%
Goblet of Eonothem
- ATK%
- HP%
- DEF%
- Elemental Mastery
- All types of Elemental DMG Bonuses
- Physical DMG Bonus
Circlet of Logos
- Crit Rate
- Crit DMG
- ATK%
- HP%
- DEF%
- Elemental Mastery
- Healing Bonus%
Every artifact has one main stat and up to four sub-stats. By leveling up artifacts, you can enhance the main stat and unlock new sub-stats every four levels. If all four sub-stats are unlocked, leveling up the artifact will enhance a random sub-stat. Sub-stats can include:
- Flat ATK
- Flat HP
- Flat DEF
- ATK%
- HP%
- DEF%
- Elemental Mastery
- Energy Recharge%
- Crit Rate
- Crit DMG
When leveling up artifacts, players should note that the maximum level depends on their rarity. 1-star artifacts cap at level 4, 2-star artifacts at level 8, 3-star artifacts at level 12, 4-star artifacts at level 16, and 5-star artifacts at level 20. 5-star artifacts offer the highest main stat values and have the best chances to roll the highest sub-stat values, making them the most powerful option for character builds.

How to Level Up Artifacts in Genshin Impact
In Genshin Impact, you can level up an artifact using other artifacts or artifact enhancement materials, along with Mora. To enhance an artifact, select it from your inventory or a character’s artifact inventory, then click on the artifact, choose the materials you want to use as fodder, and press Enhance. Be cautious when using artifacts as fodder, as there is no way to retrieve them once consumed. Additionally, ensure you have plenty of Mora before starting an enhancement session, as leveling a 5-star artifact from level 0 to 20 can cost over one million Mora.
You will also need a large number of artifacts as fodder materials for enhancement. To help with this, consider collecting artifact enhancement materials like Sanctifying Unction and Sanctifying Essence from events and the Realm Depot in the Serenitea Pot.
How to Make Artifacts in Genshin Impact – Artifact Strongbox and Artifact Transmuter
With every few updates, Genshin Impact introduces new artifact domains, often tailored to newly released characters. Players frequently face the dilemma of farming best-in-slot artifacts for newer characters while needing older sets for existing characters. Fortunately, HoYoverse has implemented a feature that allows players to craft old artifacts in Genshin Impact.
At a Crafting Bench, navigate to the third tab to find the option for crafting artifact strongboxes. You can choose from over 20 different artifact sets and combine three unwanted artifacts to create a new one. This feature provides an efficient way to obtain useful artifacts from older sets while continuing to farm artifacts for new characters. However, crafting artifacts this way does not allow you to control the main stats or sub-stats of the newly created artifact.
If you want to craft an artifact with specific main stats and sub-stats, you will need extremely rare items called Sanctifying Elixir. These can be obtained from the Artifact Transmuter, Natlan’s Tablet of Tona, Tribal Secret Spaces in Natlan, and the Gnostic Hymn Battle Pass. Sanctifying Elixirs allow you to craft any artifact, including newly added sets, with a main stat and two sub-stats of your choice. The number of Sanctifying Elixirs required depends on the artifact type:
- Flower of Life: 1 Sanctifying Elixir
- Plume of Death: 1 Sanctifying Elixir
- Sands of Eon: 2 Sanctifying Elixirs
- Goblet of Eonothem: 4 Sanctifying Elixirs
- Circlet of Logos: 3 Sanctifying Elixirs
After collecting enough Sanctifying Elixirs, go to the Gadget tab in your inventory and use the Artifact Transmuter (unlocked through the Embattle Chapter IV quest in the Adventurer’s Handbook). Select the artifact set and type you want to craft. Then, choose the main stat and two minor stats (sub-stats). Once selected, click the Define button to craft the artifact.
You can only craft one artifact from each set using the Artifact Transmuter per update cycle.
