Daredevil: Reborn may still be shrouded in mystery for the most part, but fans are one step closer to confirming which of the character's many iconic storylines the show might adapt, and it's one that eagle-eyed fans already saw coming.

Daredevil: Reborn has been on fans' wish lists for years and is Marvel Studios' answer to fans of Marvel Netflix Daredevil This show calls for the character portrayed by Charlie Cox to be brought back after the rights to all Marvel characters on Netflix reverted to Disney. Kevin Feige would eventually confirm and announce Cox's return Daredevil: Reborn, which got far in the production process before being scrapped for further development. The reboot of the series would see many more characters from the Netflix era return, including some iconic villains.

Many fans have long speculated that the MCU might adapt the Devil's Reign storyline from the comics, which saw the Kingpin rise to mayor, and now it's been confirmed by the man behind the muscle himself, Vincent D'Onofrio as confirmed. As Popverse shared, D'Onofrio was asked about his interest in reprising his role for a future adaptation of the Devil's Reign story at Dragon Con, and his clever answer pretty much gave the game away. “That is a very interesting question. “I can’t answer that because there’s a new season coming with Daredevil,” D’Onofrio replied, before giving another verbal wink to the excited audience. “I'm sure you understand. Otherwise I’d just be flapping my lips for the next thirty minutes and it would be so much fun, but that’s not happening.”

If the upcoming project that the Daredevil: Reborn If the actor insists on going beyond the TV-friendly violence of the Netflix version and actually adapting Devil's Reign, then things could get really interesting. In the comic storyline, Wilson Fisk uses the power of his elected office to ostracize unsanctioned heroes and mobilize a re-emergence of power Lightning to be his enforcers as he defeats many heroes. Many storylines in Devil's Reign are quite consequential, with at least one main character dead at the end and Luke Cage installed as the new mayor. The original plot is more of an ensemble event than a Daredevil affair, but the general structure of the plot could certainly be used to great effect in the upcoming Disney+ series.

Despite the name Daredevil: Reborn It's unlikely that Netflix will adopt the storyline it's named after, as the Netflix-era series already had a version of it. With Devil's Reign, there's a lot more new material to work with, especially for D'Onofrio's new MCU antagonist. Kingpin might even be the perfect new villain for Tom Holland's Spider-Man, and the man himself has expressed his desire to take on the web-slinger at least once. Using facets of the Devil's Reign storyline to make the character more prominent in the MCU would open all sorts of useful doors for a franchise that seems determined to tell more grounded stories with its upcoming projects. A villain like the Kingpin is a good choice for an MCU post-Deadpool and Wolverine with projects like the one inspired by political thrillers Captain America: Brave New World and the equally grounded Lightning*. Although powerful characters like Hulk and Sentry are involved, these projects exude a very different atmosphere than their predecessors.Endgame Tariff, and D'Onofrio already fits perfectly.

D'Onofrio's genuine interest in the character and his good relationship with fans surrounding his reprisals are just some of the reasons why the creator of Netflix Daredevil believes it is impossible to fill the role of Kingpin. If Devil's Reign Is will be the order of the day Daredevil: Reborn and other future MCU projects, there is no better actor to portray the character at the height of his political power and influence. For now, fans will have to wait patiently until the show actually premieres.

Daredevil: Reborn is currently scheduled to release on Disney+ in March 2025.
