Giants are a remarkable race in A piece, are one of the most powerful forces in the series. Although the World Government has begun recruiting their kind, they are also a constant presence in pirate crews, forming their own or otherwise finding their way into others.
Since giants are physically much stronger than humans, it's understandable why people would want them on board, even if they need a bigger ship for the privilege. Here's a look at the known crews that have included giants among their members.
Giant pirates with unknown crew or giant criminals who are not “pirates” in the true sense of the word are not listed.
7 Giant pirate warriors
Captain(s): Dorry & Broggy, formerly Jarul & Jorul
This crew hails from the island of Elbaf and follows their tradition of proud warrior duels. There seems to be a tradition of two captains at once. The two current captains, Dorry and Broggy, have been called “ancient legend” by some. They met the Straw Hats on Little Garden Island, where they attempted to engage in a battle to the death to settle a dispute over who was bigger. The Straw Hats ultimately helped the pair after members of the Baroque Works attempted to poach them. Dorry and Broggy were later seen in Elbaf, where they helped Shanks defeat the Kid Pirates by destroying their ship, the Victoria Punk. Although they returned to Elbaf to find sharper weapons, they seem to plan to resume this battle sometime in the future.
One of the crew's former captains, Jorul, was accidentally killed by young Charlotte Linlin, who was raised in an orphanage on the island. This incident caused all giants to despise them, making them one of the few races not represented in their territory. Other known crew members include Oimo and Kashii, who were once tricked by the World Government into serving them before Usopp uncovered their ruse.
6 New Giant Warrior Pirates
Captain: Hajrudin
This pirate crew is made up of relatively young giants, most of whom were still children at the time of Jorul's death. The most famous member of their crew is Captain Hajrudin, who participated in the Mera Mera no Mi at the Corrida Colosseum. Despite his arrogant streak, he was grateful to the Straw Hat Pirates for saving them and held up “God” Usopp so that the rescued people could see their savior.
Hajrudin and his crewmates are former mercenaries from Buggy's Delivery and were considered the most valuable members of the organization during their tenure. However, Hajrudin converted the team into a pirate crew so he could join the Straw Hat Grand Fleet, an organization of pirates who were grateful to Luffy and wanted to serve him as subordinates. Although Luffy treats them more as an alliance, the fleet takes their subordinate status very seriously.
The New Giant Warrior Pirates served as a spiritual revival of the recently reactivated New Giant Warrior Pirates, whose idol Hajrudin was during his childhood. Hajrudin was not the only pirate of this crew whose path had previously crossed with the Straw Hats. Stansen, the crew's shipwright, was freed from a slave auction house by Silvers Rayleigh when the Straw Hat Pirates attacked the business.
5 Foxy Pirates (formerly)
Captain: Foxy
The Foxy Pirates were a massive crew with a number of skilled pirates with special skills from different crews. One pirate from their crew with unclear origins is Big Pan, a Wotan who is half fishman and half giant. His huge physiology gives him a more human appearance than his pure-blooded fishman brothers. Pan is the only known Wotan in the canon series.
Big Pan was a participant in the Foxy Pirates' Davy Back Fights, a tradition in which they would poach crew members from other crews they came across. Pan was paired with Hamburg and Pickles for the Groggy Ring portion of one such Davy Back Fight, where the trio faced off against Zoro and Sanji. Although the three had a much better rapport than the Straw Hat Pirates, they ended up losing when the pair decided to get serious.
Big Pan, like most of the Foxy Pirates, has since split from the crew and may have been poached himself in a Davy Back Fight. His former teammate Hamburg is one of the three remaining members of the crew, as shown in the Final Saga.
4 Thriller Bark Pirates (formerly)
Captain: Gecko Moria
Gecko Moria was a fairly well-known pirate before he lost to Kaido, who killed everyone on his crew except him. So Moria decided to instead build a crew of zombies that he would feel less sentimental towards after they died. This was successful for a time, as Moria gained enough attention to become a warlord, albeit not a particularly successful one. One of his most powerful zombies was Oars, an ancient giant who was resurrected using the shadow of Monkey D. Luffy.
As an ancient giant, Oars is actually much larger than most giants. As a zombie, he is also immune to pain. However, this was a disadvantage to some extent, as he was less aware of which parts of his body were injured. After a sustained beating from most of the Straw Hat Pirates, Oars lost Luffy's shadow, which Moria used to power up Asgard with Shadows.
3 Blackbeard Pirates
Captain: Marshall D. Teach
Blackbeard was once a member of the Whitebeard Pirates before betraying one of his superiors and stealing the Devil Fruit he had obtained. This was part of a long plan by Blackbeard to build his ideal crew while drawing as little attention as possible. Initially, he only had four crew members, but after becoming a warlord, he used his privileges to visit Impel Down, a prison for the most notorious pirates. There, he had the lowest-level prisoners fight each other to the death for the privilege of joining his crew.
One of the survivors was Sanjuan Wolf, a giant from West Blue. Personality-wise, Wolf seems quite harmless compared to his crewmates. He has a certain aversion to fighting and has never been seen actively involved in a battle. He was the only one who was not involved in the murder of Whitebeard. Nevertheless, he has no qualms about his crewmates' crimes and continues to stay by their side as they gain power. Currently, he is the only giant among the ten Titanic captains, the top officers of the Blackbeard Pirates.
What makes Wolf so terrifying is his devil fruit, the Deka Deka no Mi, which makes him the largest giant. Even his own crew members let him rest most of the time as waking him up could be dangerous. Wolf can unintentionally leave destruction in his wake, making viewers wonder how dangerous he is when he is fighting seriously.
2 Little Pirates
Captain: Little Oars Jr.
This crew is one of many that served as sub-crews for the Whitebeard Pirates. Their captain is Little Oars Jr., an ancient giant descended from Oars. He was friends with Ace and, like most of Whitebeard's forces, traveled to rescue him during the Summit War.
The rest of the crew are not giants, but normal-sized humans who mimic their captain's appearance, using fake jaws and wigs that mimic his flowing red hair. As with the majority of Whitebeard's affiliated crew and pirates, their status after the Summit War is not immediately known.
1 Beast Pirates
Captain: Kaido
The Beasts Pirates were once considered one of the greatest threats to the World Government. Their captain, Kaido, was always looking for new talent to add to his own crew. In addition to recruiting a number of former captains and their crews, Kaido purchased a group of artificial ancient giants from Punk Hazard, which he called the Numbers.
Although they managed to imitate the size and longevity of their counterparts, they were considered failures. In appearance, they resemble ancient giants, although they often have more animalistic features. Numerically, they are not the most intelligent and tend to drink, which reduces their physical strength. Despite this, they are still strong compared to the soldiers of the crew, although far less so than more experienced pirates.
