Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty pledged his country's continued support for Sudan's stability and security during a meeting with his counterpart Hussein Awad on Tuesday.

Abdelatty said Egypt would spare no effort to help its “Sudanese brothers overcome the political, security and humanitarian challenges arising from the ongoing war” in the country.

He highlighted the outcome of a conference held in Cairo on 6 and 7 July, attended by Sudanese political groups and civil society organisations. The main outcomes were the recognition of the need to maintain state institutions, provide aid and humanitarian support to Sudan and neighbouring countries and ensure that responsibility for the political process remains with the Sudanese people.

He also reviewed the progress of development projects implemented by Egypt in Sudan and pledged his country's continued commitment to such initiatives and its determination to respond to the country's humanitarian needs.

Abdelatty stressed that it is crucial that donor countries and organizations accelerate the implementation of the commitments made at the Geneva conferences in June 2023 and Paris in April 2024. These include support for Sudan and neighboring countries hosting Sudanese refugees, as well as support for the United Nations humanitarian response plan in the country, and help fill existing funding gaps.

He also discussed with Awad regional initiatives to address the crisis in Sudan, as well as the important and central role of neighboring countries, especially Egypt, which, according to Abdelatty, is making great efforts to help Sudan at this important time.

Other topics of discussion included further bilateral relations and ways to improve cooperation between the countries, as well as regional issues of common interest, including the situation in the Horn of Africa, the war in Gaza, security in the Red Sea, the situation in Libya, the Sahel and Sahara region and the Renaissance Dam built by Ethiopia on the Blue Nile above Sudan and Egypt.

Awad thanked the Egyptian government for the facilities and services it has provided to the Sudanese people since the beginning of the crisis in his country.
