Polestar has opened the order books for its new Tesla Model Y rival.
Dubbed the Polestar 4, the medium sized SUV is priced from about $89,000 drive-away and is due to hit Aussie roads from August this year.
The svelte looking SUV costs about $18,000 more than the cheapest Model Y.
Unlike the Tesla, Polestar isn’t offering a cheaper version with a smaller battery and shorter driving range, instead only selling Long Range examples. A Model Y Long Range costs about $84,500 drive-away.
All 4s are fitted with a monster 100kWh battery that delivers 610km of driving range in the single motor version and 580km in the potent dual motor variant.
Single motor versions send 200kW and 343Nm to the rear wheels and can complete the benchmark 0-100km sprint in a claimed 7.1 seconds.
Dual motor examples cost an extra $10,000 and bring all-wheel drive and boost outputs to 400kW and 686Nm. The extra grunt drops the 0-100km/h time to 3.8 seconds.
Towing capacity is boosted from 1500kg in the single motor version to 2000kg for all wheel drive cars.
All 4s have power adjustable seats that are heated in the front row and wrapped in a hard wearing faux leather made from sustainable sources.
There are the choice of 20- to 22-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, LED head and tail lights and a mass of active safety tech.
A giant 15.4-inch central display is powered by a Google operating system and comes with a range of apps including Google Maps, YouTube, Spotify, Waze and has an in-built dashcam. It can also run Apple CarPlay and is paired with a 10.2-inch fully digital driver display.
Owners can access the cars with an NFC key card, a digital key or a conventional key fob and the software can be updated over the air just like a smartphone.
Customers wanting more can select a number of optional packs.
An $8000 Plus Pack comes with desirable items such as a head-up display that projects vital information such as travelling speed and safety alerts onto the windscreen in front of the driver. It also includes a premium Harman and Kardon stereo, hands free power tailgate, heated rear window seats and reclining rear seats.
A small rear mounted screen to control infotainment and back seat climate in the pack and it also boosts AC charging ability to 22kW.
A $2500 Pro Pack adds 21-inch alloy-wheels and a gold stripe on the seatbelts.
Dual motor variants buyers can add a $7200 Performance Pack. This adds 22-inch wheels, Brembo brakes for increased stopping power and electronically adjustable suspension.
Polestar also charges $550 for a charging cable that is compatible with a home or public AC wallbox charger.
